PFT-

Timing is everything in life.

And if you’re a fringe first-round prospect, having bad news emerge in the week before the 2015 NFL Draft is particularly poorly timed.

Via Albert Breer of the NFL Network, citing sources with four teams, LSU cornerback Jalen Collins had “multiple failed tests” for drugs during his college days.

Of course, that doesn’t necessarily have to ruin his prospects, as a former teammate with a similar rap sheet has gone on to have a productive and positive start to his career.

But teams will also have to weigh his ability at a coveted position against the possibility that he might not be able to keep himself eligible.

------------------------
kinda funny seeing him on some 1st Rd lists while no one here sez go get him. Most have seen him enough to not consider him that good. Add the multiple fails and he looks destined for Oakland.

You can't support an LSU player on this board. Have you gone mad?

I would be pretty mad if we took Collins at 44. Just too much of a risk and im not even talking about the pot. I watched every LSU game and can honestly say i'd rather tre white and rashard robinson are just better

that's what I mean... even if you aren't into the draft much, if you've watched LSU and know any football, he doesn't stand out as a player.

Probably a good thing to scour some other college type boards and see if they are laughing at other projections

Watching him play at LSU I felt I was watching a 3rd rounder, and that's based largely on his measurables, not his production.

I think they just see his height and speed. He's good, but I wouldn't take him in the 1st. I don't think the weed news will hurt him. I'm sure GMs already knew about it.

I think Jalen Collins can be a contributing NFL player. I think his best bet would be to add about 10 lbs and play FS.

I honestly think he can come in and play special teams and be your third corner for two or three years, then move to free safety and play for a few years. Kind of a poor man's Antrel Rolle.

That being said, I wouldn't pick him in the 1st round. But I'd take him in the 3rd.

But that's just IMO.

The fact that he hasn't played that much and is still touted by many as a 1st rounder is contrary to your "he doesn't stand out as a player."

The fact that Collins is mentioned in the 1st tells you just how weak this CB class is.

I don't understand why he has been hyped as a first rounder

Things like this aren't leaked this late on accident. Two theories:

1. Breer is doing a favor for a rival agent's players.

2. Some team is hard-up to get him in the 2nd or 3rd round and is intentionally torpedoing his chances of getting drafted before they're ready to pick him.

Same here. I kept expecting to see his stock drop but it never did and it just left me saying "wtf"... He does have the size + speed combo that the NFL covets now a days. But still, he never played like a guy that should go in the 1st or even top half of the 2nd round.

We say it every year. The "experts" don't know shite and have hidden agendas. They're doing favors for agents and teams they're cozy with, or they're saying things to generate a buzz or discussion. Remember when Mel Kiper was throwing a shitfit because Clausen wasn't drafted in the first round and we found out that they had the same agent?

Only because as a fan base we know better. How many threads were begging for this guy last year?

He covered Amari Cooper better than any other CB last season. He's absolutely worth a first round pick and the Saints would be lucky to have him. CBs with his size and speed are rare.

He outplayed Rashard Robinson last season

Bingo. Couple this with people trying to prove how they're not bias towards LSU and every negative with Collins is magnified and repeated while other guys don't get hyper-analyzed. 90% of this thread has seen 8-10 games Collins played this year and probably 0% has seen 2 games Kevin Johnson played.

I always thought he was a decent player for LSU, but I didn't think he was first round material

He's been projected to go in the 1st for two years now. It's because of his measureables and the potential he showed as a RsFr. Him being 6'2 , 200lbs and running a 4.4 is very attractive to pro teams and coming from DB factory like LSU doesn't hurt either.

If Jalen Mills didn't have pending legal issues he would be in the same conversation as a possible 1st or 2nd rounder.

Just because he wasn't a lock down corner at LSU, that doesn't mean he can't excel in the NFL. I dont remember Richard Sherman being an all-american.

Agreed. He isn't aggressive enough even with his size for a corner. He doesn't put enough effort into his jams at the line of scrimmage. He's gotten away with it in college some because of his athletic ability but that won't be the case in the NFL. He has to become more technically sound.
