i could be wrong too, but I'd bet bunkley > hicks at NT and it would probably be hicks > smith at DE by mid-year

I think Bunkley will start the year at NT. Plus I see Tez being used as a Hybrid linebacker playing ILB and both outside spots. Finally I see P rob starting and Greer playing Nickel.

Bunkley will start at NT, Vilma/Hawthorne could go either way but I'm giving the nod to Vilma. And I have Vacarro replacing Jenkins.

That said, Hicks will see plenty of snaps as primary backup NT/DE, maybe eventually starting this season.

Hawthorne and Vilma will each certainly get a good amount of snaps no matter who starts, but I think Hawthorne also has value as a cover OLB(something I'm not sure Galette/Wilson can do).

Also see Galette/Wilson splitting a good bit of time. And like Hawthorne playing ILB and OLB, I think Wilson could also do that.

I can also see Vacarro being our primary nickel and playing SS meaning both Harper and Jenkins/IAQ could get a fair amount of playing time as all 3 rotate.

I think PRob may be screwed because White seems to fit the system more(being a more physical corner) and could move into the nickel role with Vacarro.

One last thing to add, Jenkins will be a run sub NT only against run heavy teams/teams with good RBs.

Likely so...like he was used in college.

Likely so...in fact, watch how differently Robinson is used this year. I think they keep things very simple for him (no more slot or switching sides) so he can just react and not think so much.

I think we are moving some guys to better fits for them, and i think the defense will improve because of this. What concerns me is lack of a game changer. There is not really a guy in that lineup i see dominating a game.

P rob was actually pretty good with Williams I think Spags zone scheme was the worst thing possible for him

The defense went from complete man coverage under Williams to zone under Spags and now back to man coverage under Ryan. I think the veteran DB's should fit Ryan's scheme.

PRob was decent when GW was here. He only beat out Porter because of the injury. Porter went on to win the job back and start 11 games that year once healthy.

PRob has never been more than a NB and spot starter. He has shown flashes but has been almost as inconsistent as Jenkins.

And I completely agree about the Spags thing. I've been pumping that angle. Every one of our corners are pure man, but even still PRob was average at best in man. In zone he was trash.

I'm not a P Rob fan, I was selfishly hoping for us to get Tyrann Mathieu and play him at Nickelback haha

Maybe it becomes Vaccaro

There are maybe 2 safeties i can think of who are legit game changers. Troy Paulamaoulo(SP?) and Ed Reed. Sharper 2009 too.

I agree and definitely don't see a big playmaker on D. Maybe it becomes Vaccaro or Junior Galette, but I think the honest goal is to get a defense together and see what personel thrive. Hopefully we have a good starting group by September and add playmakers to the spots that are determined as weak as seasons go on

I'm optimistic, still think Jenkins has big play potential in the right system. It will be interesting where they play him.
Vaccaro could be our guy, or my guy is Wilson. I think he can be a double digit sack guy in the 3-4. he was over matched at de in the 4-3 IMO. But like I said, I'm optimistic...

That's the thing. I don't think Robinson is a nickel corner as in a slot guy. Seems to me he needs to be put outside as a mostly press cover guy and left alone. Ryan's M.O. indicates that will be how he is used.
