According to Utah's team physician, recent tests show DT Star Lotulelei's heart has "no evidence of dysfunction" and is pumping "consistently with that of highly trained athletes." Combine testing showed Lotulelei's heart was pumping at 44 percent efficiency rather than the normal 55-70 percent. A repeat of Lotulelei's echocardiogram test back in Utah showed the heart had improved, "leaving most to believe the abnormality might have been caused by a virus." Said Utah head physician Dave Petron, "There was no evidence of a dysfunction so we think it was transient in nature. There was no reason why he couldn’t continue on in an athletic career."
