I feel like a douche bag starting this thread in Week 2, and usually make fun of the Rantards that do this sort of shite. But I'm depressed this morning, and in the offseason, hope springs eternal. So:

The real answer is TALENT. This team is greatly lacking in it. Just devoid of talent at a lot of areas. But more specifically:

1) Elite Passrusher.
2) Big, Dynamic WR
3) Guard
4) Nose Tackle/Defensive Tackle
5) Pass Catching TE
6) Another Guard

I think the shake up on talent evaluators already began this past offseason, so I'm not sure I see any changes there. I would like to see some more coaching shakeups:

1) Finally, fire the ST Coach and get some new blood in there.
2) Part ways with Joe Vitt or move him into some kind of administrative role.
3) New Defensive line coach
4) I think Payton has to really, really consider bringing in a new Offensive Coordinator that he hands over design and play call duties to.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head with needs

Payton should consider 5 wide no huddle offense. Its when we have been at our best the last couple years

This is huge right here. It's clear as day that Carmichael is nothing more than a yes man to Payton. Out of all the coaches that have been poached from us over the years (Kromer, Allen, Curtis Johnson, Lombardi, etc.) it's no coincidence that Carmichael, Vitt, McMahon, and Bill Johnson haven't gone anywhere since 2006.

First things first. Get rid of Bill Johnson. Maybe another D-Line coach can make something out of Akiem Hicks. He and Jenkins haven't developed at all. We're lucky we have Cam Jordan...he so talented that even Bill Johnson can't make him suck.

Won't happen. He's CSP's best friend from college. If he goes, Payton goes.

Read above.

3) New Defensive line coach

Bill Johnson or whatever his name is is horrible. Our passrushers always seem to miss sacking the QB by like half a second. I feel like the scheme isn't working properly and the coach isn't coaching proper technique to these lineman. No reason they should be struggling this much.

Agreed. Teams are adapting to Payton's repetitive playcalling. He's been doing the same shite for almost 10 years now...

Also, our DTs are fricken bums. Kevin Williams is alright, but man have Hicks and Jenkins sucked arse. I think we need to part ways with these two.

I'm in total agreement with your OP except for this. I'm not sure play calling is even the issue at this point. The biggest problem offensively is guard play. The team simply can't run the ball consistently & there are major struggles in pass pro right now.

When you can't run the ball effectively on early downs, it sets you up for 3rd & longs. That's where the other problem of not being able to protect Brees comes into play. Both problems lead to predictably in the play calling especially on 3rd down. It also causes defenses to have no fear of the running game to a point where defenders are less prone to bite on play action. This causes the offense to lose the ability to move safeties & MLB with run fakes. It's why the offense can't attack the seams right now which has been a staple of the offense since Payton arrived.

If 3rd downs are manageable, the threat of the run or pass is still there but having to convert long distances constantly basically eliminates the threat of the run. DC's can then bring extra defenders & pass rushers can pin their ears back without fear of having to defend the run. It's all a trickle down effect of bad interior line play.

Not only that but the immediate pressure Brees gets most times causes him to move off his "spot" & he has to reset which effects his timing with the receivers. Last season & in the first 2 games this year, he has had to move around more than I can ever recall. If a team can't block upfront consistently it will effect the entire offense. It's just that simple.

Go back & look at how inconsistent the offense was early in 2011. That was the greatest offensive season under Payton yet Olin Kruetz was terrible at center the first half of the season. The team was only 5-3 at the midway point in the season. Payton put DLP at center to shore up the position & the team went 8-0 the rest of the way. This team doesn't seem to have legitimate options currently on the roster to replace both Evans & Lelito though.

Spot on. That no neck son of bitch is a no technique teaching muthafricka. Pure garbage & our defensive line play & development has suffered entirely too much on his watch. Hicks probably won't be retained after this season but watch him go somewhere else & end up playing very well. John Jenkins has severely regressed since a solid rookie season. People keep saying we have no talent on the interior of our defensive line but that's not true. What we have is a line coach who can't coach for shite.

It's not as bad as some make it out to be especially if the cap rises again this offseason like some predict. We are set to get major cap relief after next season though. The team will have money to work with in the 2017 offseason.

Joey Bosa or Robert Nkemdiche is going to be a tough decision.

Is the guy I would want but Payton better not let Bill Johnson anywhere near him.
