since we're drifting in this direction...

I find this shite intriguing-

perhaps the more interesting indicator of where Smith stands these days on draft boards around the NFL, is who showed up to watch his workout. For starters, 28 NFL teams had at least one rep in Morgantown; one of the four teams that didn’t show up, though, was Arizona, which has the 7th pick overall in this year’s draft, as well as he issues at the position. In contrast, Jacksonville, which has the second pick this year, had a full contingent at the West Virginia pro day including team president Mark Lamping, G.M. David Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley. And the Jaguars met privately with Smith after his workout in what was described as a long ‘in-depth session.’ Buffalo, which has the 8th pick and just released starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, also sent G.M. Buddy Nix. The Bills have a private workout scheduled with Smith on March 22nd. Oakland , with the 3rd pick overall, also reporedly have an interest in Smith, but don't appear to have sent anyone other than a regular scout to the West Virginia pro da,y, while the New York Jets, who have reportedly kicked the tires on all the top rated QBs in this year's draft class, sent personnel exec Terry Bradway. Meanwhile, after working Smith out privately earlier in the week, Philadelphia did not appear to have been out in force at the West Virginia pro day. The Eagles also haven’t had much to say about their workout with Smith which owner Jeffrey Lurie, head coach Chip Kelly and G.M. Howie Roseman all attended. Roseman did say, as quoted in the local Philly media that Smith was “obviously an impressive guy’, but otherwise wouldn’t comment on where the Eagles have him rated. In fact, Roseman appeared to play the whole trip down saying that it was just part of the process and would only say that the team was “trying to get as much information as possible.” Meanwhile, Kelly commented that "we're going to look at anybody and everybody to see if we can win games; does that mean we're going to take a quarterback in the draft? I don't know." In fact, a casual observer might be inclined to suggest that the Eagles appear to be downplaying their interest in Smith rather than making the case that they are seriously thinking of taking him with the 4th pick this year. There has been some speculation that the Eagles’ flirtation with Smith this week may actually be nothing more than a smokescreen been intended to entice other teams with a genuine interest in Smith into thinking about trading up to get him; the problem with that speculation however is that any team considering moving up to select Smith is more than likely going to be inclined to try and move ahead of the Eagles into one of the top three spots. And while there is always the possibility that there is some serious subterfuge going on in regards to Smith, the fact is that teams rarely send their busy executives half way across the country to watch a player they don’t already have a pretty good grade which suggests in turn, at least for now, that Smith may very well be back in the picture for a top 5-10 selection this coming April.

tl dr in advance

I posted a thread about Southern Miss.OLB prospect Jamie Collins, Saints had four scouts at his pro day. That isn't just for a cursory look see.

The Bills said not long after the season ended that they were willing to make the push this year to trade up in the draft for a QB. I think the best case scenario in terms of Blues stating our chances are a lot better if 2 QBs go top 10, would be for the Bills to trade up with the Raiders, and then Jacsonsville takes Smith at 2. I HIGHLY doubt it, but somehow if Barkley can get back on track with his throwing for his pro day he can jump into the conversation for a top 10 pick, and maybe even to the Bills, whether they trade up or not. Just a thought though, and things change quite fast in the offseason. The release of Fitz and lack of starting calibur QBs in FA is encouraging though.

If both Jarvis Jones and Mingo are available when the Saints pick (a big if) and they decide to go OLB, I have to say, as big of an LSU homer and Mingo fan that I am .... I think Jones is the better choice. But if they don't sign Ed Reed at safety I would probably pick Vaccaro.

At 15 you'd pick Vacarro? Really?

No way dude. If you're going to pick a S I would absolutely trade back. Taking a S that high is ludicrous.

So Ansah is a project and raw, but Mingo who has only played DE in a 4-3 is a perfect fit?

Mingo played LB in high school and Ansah has only played football at all for a few years and didnt even start the entire year at BYU.

They can sign a free agent left tackle or draft one in the first round. Got to protect the franchise QB. Pretty simple, really.

Each day that passes it looks more like Charles Brown to me. Next man up.

Was hopeful for a short term starter vet like McKinnie. If any now I'm more inclined to think backup. Maybe someone like Omiyale.

Marcel Jones will be back to compete. A decent player but last year he followed his injury prone history.

Dunno if Bryce Harris might have any LT capability at all.

After the 1st Rd there are some I like that could potentially compete head to head with Brown- Faulk, Kyle Long, Menelik Watson, Terron Armstead, etc

I'm sorry but nobody is going to drop to us because of Geno Smith, he was always going to be drafted before our pick

I've had him as a given to start. I think the conversation is more about if 2 or even 3 QBs might go before #15.

I add WR as well. There could be none or prolly two at the most. 5 total QB/WR picks and the Saints might have to decide between a couple of guys like Mingo, Jones, and/or Ansah. Lotulelei and a pass rusher on the board would be a nice predicament as well.

I'm comfortable with any of these defenders falling:

Jarvis Jones
Ziggy Ansah
Dion Jordan
Star Lotulelei
Mingo

...but it wouldn't surprise me if the Saints go opposite of what I want & make a surprise pick like Lane Johnson who is a quality OT.

I really wish they would drop down a couple of spots & pick Damontre Moore along with getting an extra pick.
