I don't have any insight into the Saints and don't follow them much closer than any other franchise, so what's the thought process behind this?

They could have franchised him again right?

We're they just positive he wouldn't resign with them after the tag (or they aren't willing to pay him the $$$ he will get) so wanted to get something back for him?

Could they not have got more than Unger and a 4th rounder?

They were in the locker room and saw the writing on the wall. Best to get out a year before the decline than wait a year after.

Look at the Patriots

have the patriots ever signed a guy to a big deal then dealt him the next year? usually they deal the guys at the end of deals or let them walk

even failures like adalius thomas were kept around. and guys like chad johnson were acquired cheaply

But why not read say...just one or two threads to get caught up instead of asking a 5 year old question and clog the board?

oh wait...its game day

It boils down to him being our biggest asset, who could bring the most return in order to improve our team before Drew Brees is done. They add Unger+ a first round pick, and free up some money down the line.

People are celebrating it but it is a huge black eye for our front office that this is what it has come to.

but it is a huge black eye for our front office scouting dept and CSP and his staff for poor FA's in the last few years and poor drafting that this is what it has come to.
