Per a source with knowledge of the contract, the Saints will take a $9 million cap charge, but they’ll save $8 million in cash. Come 2016, he’ll be off the books.

The Seahawks owe Graham a $5 million roster bonus, a $2.9 million base salary, and a $100,000 workout bonus in 2015. Next year, he’s due an $8.9 million salary and a $100,000 workout bonus.

In the final year of the contract, Graham is due to receive a $2 million roster bonus in March, a $7.9 million salary, and a $100,000 workout bonus.

That’s a total of $27 million owed to Graham over the next three years, with $13 million paid by the Saints for the 2014 season.

Am I reading this wrong or are they getting Graham for 14 mil for three years?

The charge is due to them back-loading the contract, correct?

@adbrandt: Jimmy Graham got a $12 million signing bonus in July. Will leave a $9 million dead money charge on the Saints Cap. Oy...

An All Pro and a first round pick for another All Pro. That's legit.

In my thread it was argued that this was done to free up money to fill other holes

I guess it does depending on how you arrange the contracts

But the bigger plus is a 1st rounder and Unger

And ridding ourselves of a locker room cancer

This freed up 2-3 million of cap space.

No it didn't. Unger makes $4.5 Million on top of the $9 Million the Saints just absorbed for Graham's signing bonus. They lost in the end, not saved.

To use on what??? Another TE?????? Losing Jimmy IS a big deal for the offense... The Saints are a few moves from being a 7 win team again........

Lets see. Getting rid of Lance Moore, Devery, Sproles, Graham,Thomas, Yes real good for Brees....

Graham is due a $5 million roster bonus on Thursday and was set to count $11 million against the Saints' cap. Trading him now actually saves the Saints $2 million in cap space this year, as well as freeing up flexibility going forward.

Yeah, Devery and Moore really performed last year...

Sproles slowed down. Pierre I agree with.

Brees will be fine if the OL is better. Cooks, Stills, Colston, Hill and maybe a FA and we're fine.
