Snapped the ball on the punt with 9 or 10 seconds left...

Why not let it run down to 2 or 3 seconds, then snap it? It may only be 7 seconds or so, but anyone, who has at the least, has watched football for a little bit knows how important 7 seconds can be. That's essentially 2 extra plays for your opponents in a 2 minute drive situation.
