More than anything we need more talent on defense. I don't think any defensive coordinator necessarily gives us that. Currently, Phillips has Chris Harris, Talib, Von Miller, Ware, I think some of their defensive linemen for them who I don't know a ton about are having big years. Phillips inherited a situation that makes him look very good. A lot of these players were already there. He doesn't solve our issues. Having another defensive draft like this last year and having the current young players continue to develop solves our issues. There is no quick fix. Hopefully we bring in some more playmakers, and we don't waste a bunch more free agent acquisitions on a bunch more busts.

I agree, we do need more talent on defense, but look at the Texans defense before and after him. We can say all we want about the Broncos' defense, they were there (i.e. Miller, Ware, Harris, Talib, etc), but he got them to improve in every single area from last year.

He and his group turned around a lackluster texans' defense that had cushing for 12 games and williams 13 games in 2010 go from bottom to top while cushing played in 16 and williams played 5 in 2011. JJ Watt wasn't even the current JJ Watt as well.

Texans' defense in 2010 -> 2011
30th YPG -> 2nd
29th PPG -> 4th
23rd Sacks -> 6th
23rd INTs -> 13th
22nd FFs -> 12th
31st FRs -> 14th

Additions from 2011 on defense from FA and Draft
- Johnathan Joseph
- Danieal Manning

- JJ Watt (1st)
- Brooks Reed (2nd)
- Brandon Harris (2nd)
- Rashad Carmichael (4th)
- Shiloh Keo (5th)
- Cheta Ozougwu (7th)
* They had 8 picks, EIGHT in the 2011 draft, 6 and 5 of the first 8 were defensive picks. 2 were TJ Yates (QB) in the 5th and Derek Newton (OT) in the 7th.

They committed pretty much a full draft and free agency to get those players
Joseph: 5yr/48.75mil
Manning: 4yr/20mil

Take a look at the talent on the Broncos roster and the talent on the Saints roster. Even just limit yourself to the defensive ends. That is why Wade Phillips would not come close to duplicating his success in New Orleans.

Phillips would be a a nice get, and his players universally love him. Though I don't know how much impact he really has given what he has to work with.

Exactly

I don't even know who our best defensive player is at this point, but he would be like the 8th best player on Denver's defense
