No one ever said he was terrible. I just never understood his hype and still don't see how he'll become the elite player that everyone claimed he will be.

What are your credentials and why should we take merit on your observations from "watching tape"

Man some of you on here love to exaggerate. The expectations for him are elite now? I swear we just wanted a guy who can get some kind of push consistently.

You don't draft a defensive tackle in the first round if you don't think he can become elite. If you just wanted a guy that could get some push, they should've drafted a DT in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, there were plenty to choose from.

I don't have any credentials. And you don't have to take any merit to anything I say. I'm just making my observations known. I love football as a sport. I live and breathe it. I love to break down tape and DL is my favorite position group to watch.

If y'all don't like what I have to say, it's fine. The Saints are my team but I don't have black and gold glasses. I'm a fan of good football in general.

I have seen both good and bad in Rankins scouting videos. The problem is your original post's wording makes it sound like he doesn't have any good plays that you've witnessed.

When I saw him in the game it was either him hitting a double team looking lost

If he's being double teamed, then he's doing his job at DT. Sorry you fell asleep the day they taught football in football class.

Oh no I saw some good stuff from him. I think he never gives up on a play, I think he tracks the ball very well, and he moves very well for his size. You saw that when he had the chance to free rush or chase down offensive players. He is very athletic.

Yeah breaking down tape on YouTube. You're a joke, a too serious pee wee football coach that never got a chance in high school.

This proves you have no idea what you're talking about. Of course he moves well for his size, he's one of the smaller DT's in the league along with Aaron Donald.

You expect a rookie to be elite? Man your expectations are huge. Of course you draft a dt who has potential to be elite, but the reality is being an elite dt as a rookie is an outlier rather than being a norm.

But I guess you scouting, you'd be able to find all the elites.

Unfortunately this become a super prevalent opinion these days. Because some rookies are blooming earlier (a product of colleges improving their conditioning and overall competition IMO), fans are so fast to judge guys. It's 100% ridiculous to ever expect immediate major impact from a rookie.

Seriously, the 2015 class has had barely a year with the team and people are bailing on everyone. Were you all perfect at your job when you first started? Everyone improves with experience. Before the last 15 years or so, most rookies didn't start for 1-2 years period. Give it a break, lads.
