Both for not much more over the Vet min. amount. This would have roster at 3qb--8wr--5Hb--3fb--4TE-- 10/ol-- 2kp--1/ls--1p--7/dl--9lb--15db = 68 players an 9 draft picks then 13 ufda players gets them to 90 camp limit. With Deadrick an a vet TE then the roster at a good pre draft depth chart in all positions. No no trade ups esp with first 5 picks as the 13th-31st-44th-75th-78thpicks they need 5 in the top 3rd of draft to fill holes on the roster. If anything trade 31st for a extra 2nd an 4th rd an 7th rd picks.Saints lowest amount of picks of all teams last few years they need depth do not trade up. :violin:

Yes Deadrick was so-so but he played a lot of snaps so they had him rated a good as the other reserves; He would be a good cheap depth signing.Payton stated a plan to draft 2 D-lineman with Deadrick that woulg be 9 an one or two ufda then at right position depth for camp esp as last year saints carried 7 on 53 roster.look on average to have one hurt in camp going on IR

9 picks is enough and i wouldn't be shocked if bush gets moved for a pick(and maybe jahri)

Deadrick sucked arse and we don't need a TE when we can get a TE late in the draft. There's no need to use cap space we don't have for one.

I much rather a WR if money is spent.

344 snaps
-14.9 Total PFF score
-9.5 Run Defense
-6.6 Pass Rush
+1.2 Penalty

he was pretty bad.
You're better off trying to find a UDFA that would cost the less than him. His vet minimum is like 750k or so, that is expensive for a guy that doesn't produce. You could get someone that would do the same if not better for 500k.

Not to get into the debate, but fyi, vet minimum contracts can count for less than the amount paid to the player of structured correctly.

I see no one directly addressed this but we have a vet TE in Watson, who was a starter before coming here. And Hill has shown enough flashes of his potential that we can see he'll be at least good.

On Deaderick, he did not impress and with Jenkins and Bunkley healthy (for now) we do not need him. There is also an UDFA we have they were liking (Virgil I believe).

We are thin at the 3tech (where Hicks plays mostly). We have Foster but he is built more like a traditional 4-3 end than a 3tech. That's the only spot we are actually short on bodies.

exactly. Watson was great once in his career and is still quite good. what we need is a young TE to develop for future use.

Not doing a tender on walker was a mistake not doing so was because of how bad the cap situation was. However as i recall even when Walker was healthy Deadrick playing over him in some games as he can also play the hicks/Walker type roll.Yes Saints very thin at the position if not Deadrick then another vet min fa big body.i think thw way vet min contracts cost cap wise only a hit of about 250,000 on cap leaves 500,000.re do Jordan get about 2,500,000.then thats enough to sign the picks.Yep deadrick or vet min Te not all pro but when your broke somethings better than zip depth.

Deaderick played NT. Walker played 3tech. Deaderick rarely played 3tech.

Thinking we could resign Walker for the minimum was a miscalculation. Signing Deaderick isn't going to fix our depth. We need to add someone in the draft.

Still costs more than that UDFA (435k), he is a 6 year veteran - 745k would be his minimum.

Even giving him 0 bonuses, etc...he'd cost 585k against the cap. ~150k more than an UDFA or a rookie that would probably do the same if not better. He was horrid.

If they tendered Walker they would have ended up paying him more than we want to. Additionally, had they tendered him, Det could have still signed him and we would have gotten nothing in return. So, not worth the risk in the eyes of the front office.
