#Saints made play for #Browns CB Joe Haden before #NFL trade deadline but determined price was too high, per sources

Always is when you have Mark Ingram.

Smh with all these dudes playing well under this scheme you try and give up a pick for a corner. Man are we stupid get a damn front 7 player

If you can get him for a 7th rounder, why not?

None of the contract is guaranteed at that point and you can renegotiate going forward.

He has a lot more value than a 7th rounder. Browns were likely asking for a 1-3 round pick

I would've pull the trigger for Haden if it were for a 2nd rounder.

With what we've done with our 2nd round picks, we may as well trade it

I would have done Haden and a 4th for our 2nd.

to be fair, our 2nd rounders have been pretty good.

Its the 3rd round where its been questionable lately

Armstead, Graham, Hicks, and even PJ were all damn good picks for the 3rd round

ETA:

It's 4th round picks that have been hot garbage for us with the lone exceptions of Jahri Evans and Jermon Bushrod in the Payton era.

I mean here is the list of 4th round picks under Payton:
Jahri Evans
Jermon Bushrod
Antonio Pittman
Chip Vaughn
Stanley Arnoux
Al Woods
Nick Toon
Khari Fortt
David Onyemata

ETAA: Actually the 6th is the most useless. Not one hit there. Maybe that's why we always trade the damn things.
Josh Lay (had a good career with the Bengals but not here)
Mike Hass
Taylor Mehlhaff
Andrew Tiller
Rufus Johnson
Tavon Rooks

Totally, don't you just love how Stanley Jean-Baptiste has played this year?

The Saints policy should be flipping unknown commodities for proven ones. I'm sure someone here can detail it but lets see how many players from the past 5 drafts in rounds 1-3 are starting for our team at the moment.

The saints policy should be stocking up on draft picks.

2006 - Roman Harper (Solid Starter)
2007 - Traded to Detroit (3rd and 5th - both picks sucked)
2008 - Tracy Porter (Solid Starter - Saints Legend)
2009 - Traded for Jeremy Shockey (Damn good trade)
2010 - Charles Brown (Bust)
2011 - Traded for Mark Ingram (Not looking good)
2012 - Pick Forfeited due to ONOZ Bounties!!!
2013 - Pick Forfeited due to ONOZ Bounties!!!
2014 - Stanley Jean-Baptiste (Absolute Garbage)
2015 - Hau'oli Kikaha (Jury Still Out)
2016 - Michael Thomas (Going to be a stud)
2016 - Vonn Bell (Showing real promise)

So in conclusion, we had a decent run from 2006 - 2009, fell off a damn cliff from 2010 - 2014, if (and that's a huge if) Kikaha can be healthy that would be a win, and 2016 is looking really good.
