The Saints are allowing 6.65 yards per play this season with one game left. That would be the highest season average in the Super Bowl era, passing the 6.47 mark set by the Saints in 2012.

at least with the 2012 defense they were okay at getting turnovers. that year could have been a lot worse but i think this year is a lot like that year. Its been a nightmare but this time with our head coach intact.

this defense is just terrible at everything.

it starts with the coaching, they ought to be ashamed at themselves.

one of the poorest excuses of a defense I've ever fricking seen.

How many times has a Payton-coached team had the worst defense of all-time?

Payton will never see the playoffs w/o Drew.

I would bet money.

You know what I mean.

Wonder where his defenses have been ranked while he's been a HC.

Well he wasn't the HC in 2012. I don't think that D would have been near as bad with him coaching, BC our O would have controlled the ball better

I remember an article a few years ago making a claim for Brees as the GOAT. Want to say that Brady averages a top 10 D, Peyton around 13, and Brees was around 20.

That was before these last two years

We need to bring in Jim Tomsula or Dick Lebeau if let go and give them complete control

Why? What makes you think he would be a positive change at D coordinator? He's never done it in the NFL and he's a disaster as a head coach.

Were you that impressed by his defenses with the Berlin Thunder 10 years ago?

Did you follow their offseason at all? And lucky for us he wouldn't be the head coach

Defense is all about your front 7, and he's the best in the business. There is a reason he's been able to remain there through multiple changes and Jim wouldn't let him interview for DC jobs

But we can recycle the same failed DCs if you'd like. Who do you want?

quote:

It was a very easy decision after speaking with him,” Harbaugh said when he decided to keep Tomsula on his staff. “He’s had a special gift of presence, personality, of teaching ability and that came shining through. I remember that first meeting. And that’s one position I’ve just never had to worry about since I’ve been here as the head coach.”

Defensive tackle Justin Smith called Tomsula the best coach he's had in his 14-year career, and in 2010, when Singletary was fired and Tomsula took over a team that finished 6-10, his players spoke glowingly of what he was able to do under trying circumstances.

"(The season) was defined by mental mistakes,” former 49ers defensive lineman Jean Francois said after the 2010 finale, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “Not being prepared for certain situations. When situations happened, I felt like we weren’t prepared for that moment and it slipped out of our hands.

"This week of practice, with Tomsula, it was like we were preparing for every situation: four minutes, two minutes. What happens when it’s 3rd-and-1? What happens when we’re backed up in the end zone? He worked on every different situation so that when we got in the game it didn’t feel brand new.”

Support.

The job Tomsula has done with 1/2 the defense retiring is amazing.
