That is awesome. I wish they would bring back the white pants at least once for a throwback game. The white pant unis are the best IMO.

Obtained directly from the collection of team member John Shinners, to our knowledge, this is the only surviving example of this extremely rare style.

There's one in the Saints Hall of Fame.

So few survive because the helmets were later repainted and used in a semi-pro league.

John Mecum, Jr. owned the Saints as well as the Richmond Roadrunners. When he was told that he couldn't wear them in the NFL, Mecum merely shipped the helmets up to Richmond, where they were "cleaned" and restickered with the Roadrunners logo.

The Saints tried to wear black helmets a few years ago but got shot down by the NFL because there were already too many teams with black helmets. Sorry, won't happen.

I heard this too. Maybe a while back on SR from somebody conversing with a rep from the Saints HOF? Don't hold me to this. Something about the Saints wanting to completely re-brand for the 2006 season. Supposedly this was in the works before Katrina. They thought about changing the uniforms, helmets, and team font. Then Katrina hit & Tagliabue said no b/c everybody identified too much with the traditional look, especially the helmet.
