was just looking at the numbers to see what we gave up (over 28 per game) and it didn't realize how much worse yardage wise we were than everybody else. We were at 440 per game and the next worst team was the Giants at 383. Wow.

I'd like Crennel or Singletary.
Tucker was hired as DC for the Bears about 10 days ago. He'd be a good hire though.

I like him, why? As a DC romeo crennel's units gave up an average of 22.1ppg. That would be tied for 17th in the league for this year and with the 2012 Saints offense scoring 28.8ppg and allowing 28.4ppg that would've been the difference between losses and victories for sure.
Also, given the fact this offense obviously underperformed, we should score 30+ ppg with payton at the helm. Also, those "20" points given up by his teams were given up because the offense couldn't stay on the field long enough, couldn't score at all it at times, and some random offense mistakes which led to TD's for the other team.
if he was a stock, I'd buy.

I agree and out of that 20 pts a game his defense let go some of it might have been a pick 6 or a special teams td

Singletary has never coordinated a defense in the nfl......he's a glorified position coach, his X's and O's are very questionable. Almost all of the NFC would love this move.

Mike Singletary was easily a bad head coach, but give him scheme and personnel autonomy on the defensive side of the ball, with no other distractions and ..... Well, just look at SF's defense now.

Yeah, but compare his teams offensive rank in the league. I would imagine that the browns and Chiefs offensive woes put a good bit of stress on his D. Sorta like what the Chief has to deal with.

singletary has never coordinated a defense i don't think. also their D didn't have a pass rushing anchor like aldon smith until harbaugh got there. we need a guy like that

Good point...and no doubt.
However, he didn't officially "coordinate" because he was their HC, but the defense was his.... and the overall system and personnel structure in place (plus a few recently added impact players) is the defense they currently have. Part of our problem has been scouting and selecting defensive talent, in general; he has proven to be proficient in that area.

He hasn't. And I'm not sure you can give him all the credit for their defense. Mike Nolan (A very good Defensive mind) was head coach before Singletary took over. Plus, they've been drafting defensive talent like Willis, Brooks, Golston, etc. for years.
That being said, we aren't going to get a top notch proven defensive coordinator unless it's Crennel. I'm ok with that. If we have to go the assistant route, I like Singletary and Keith Butler.
He's also coached some good linebacking corps in Baltimore, San Fran and now Minnisota, as well as working/playimg under some good defensive coaches like Mike Nolan, Buddy Ryan and Leslie Frazier.

saints offense has been in at least the top 10 in offense except for 2 seasons since Sean Payton

We did snap the Packers streak when everyone thought they were going to go undefeated and that was because Romeo puts pressure on good QBs. Peyton Manning always struggles vs Romeo. He also has a good eye for talent. Justin Houston has been an absolute beast for KC.
Just unfortunate the Chiefs didn't have a QB. The D was on the field 3/4 of the game.
My only concern is his age. He is 65 years old. I still think this is a no brainer and Sean Payton sees it already.
