he was a steal in the third then the saints should have drafted him higher IMO if they were that high on him.

Ehh... no. Payton said they had him graded as a late 2nd. He was a steal in the 3rd and a reach in the early second.

Drew Brees will retire before his rookie contract is up. Why wouldn't you want to bring in a good qb to learn a few years under Brees?

He's 36 and has two years left on his deal, so doubtful

I'm not thrilled about it because statistics show that it is very rare to find a franchise quarterback, and it is even more rare to find a franchise quarterback outside of the first 2 rounds. Therefore I've been thinking that the ride your horse till he's worn out and worry about a replacement when he's gone strategy is best because you're very unlikely to find a replacement anyway and you need to maximize your time while you have a quarterback. But whatever. Pats seem like they have been drafting middle round qb's for the last decade, and some people can't stop praising their drafting.

Listen, Payton must have seen something in this guy to draft him that high. He'll play 2-3 years behind Brees and we'll see what he develops into. I like this draft. A lot of unknowns, players no one talked about on here, could turn out great.

AND your guessing just like I am, I would have taken another LB preferably Eli Harold and still could have had Williams

stupid pick at a position we didnt need to draft

Or perhaps some people in the organization value a balance of immediate need and preparation for future needs?

I love the pick. It is possible (and this is 100% speculation) that this was the most important draft pick in team history. Can't wait to see what's in store.
