The Houston Texans aren't going to be able to replace Arian Foster with any free-agent pickup. But they did make a smart choice when they picked up the phone Tuesday in response to Foster's serious groin injury.

Pierre Thomas is on his way to visit the Texans, NFL Media's Rand Getlin reported according to a source informed of the situation. We've been perplexed all offseason about why Thomas doesn't have a job. Perhaps Texans general manager Rick Smith read all our coverage this summer saying that Thomas was the best running back available on the market.

Thomas is not an every down back, but he's been one of the best passing down options in the league for his entire career. He's especially excellent on screen passes and was effective in 2014 with 4.9 yards-per-carry and 8.4 yards-per-catch. Those are numbers of a player that still has something left.

We would be surprised if Thomas doesn't get signed during his trip to Houston. He makes sense as a passing down option to pair with Alfred Blue or Chris Polk. Foster is expected to miss half the season on injured reserve with a designation to return, and the Texans will need a lot of role players to step up.

Damn. Well better Houston than an NFC team. Plus it seems like a good fit for him.

It's definitely going to be weird to see him in another jersey but I wish him the best of luck. He was the epitome of that Super Bowl team. An underrated hard worker who left it all out on the field every game. He also scored the team's first ever TD in a Super Bowl

I'm hopeful that after this likely short term contract is up and he's fully ready to hang it up, that the Saints sign him to a one day or however they do it so he can retire as a Saint. One of me favorite players ever and a huge part of 2009 SB

I wish PT all the best in the world, and hope he is as successful in Houston as he was for us.

Dude never really made the money he deserved. So I hope he hangs on and makes a few more pay checks from the league.

Wow, apparently PT expecting more than league minimum. Maybe he wanted incentives as well.

yeah, that wasn't going to happen.

He's only worth the minimum.

For someone who collectively made 13.3 million off contracts, taken his fair share of hard hits, would you take vet minimum?

He has been my favorite Saint for years and years. He ran with passion and could always find more yards somehow.

I don't know who my favorite Saint will be this season. They will have to earn it like PT did week in and week out.
