No. He's been terrible in coverage and LB is not a need.

We're pretty set at linebacker.

No, he went to LSU remember. Suggesting that we pick him up makes you a massive homer. What are you thinking??????

Yep, we're just ignoring a need for a linebacker who struggles in coverage.

This thread was only started because he went to LSU.

Browner was released, maybe we should take a look too.

Doesnt matter if this guy was JJ Watt. OP would be blasted and called a ridiculous homer for suggesting the Saints pick up a former LSU player.

Pretty sure this board would be for PP7, but K

Whether we have a need at LB shouldn't be the only factor. Is he better/offer more than the worst LB we'll keep should be considered.

You're a moron. Nobody blasted him for asking about an LSU player. The responses were honest and genuine and spoke about how we don't have a need for him and he doesn't work well in coverage. You were the first person to even mention LSU. You've quickly become one of the worst posters on this board. If you're not an alter troll, may God have mercy on your soul.

It isn't.

He doesn't offer anything that we don't already have.

Depends on other factors too like age and cost. He's not eligible for the practice squad. I just don't see the need unless we have injuries.

I'm also a huge fan of his and have met him several times. Quality person and leader, but father time. Those foot injuries are a real bitch.

I'd trust him more with significant playing time than Stupar.

He's only missed the 1st day of practice so far.

So we take on $1.6m (+whatever bade is guaranteed) in dead money + whatever Riley gets to backup a position where the starter seems pretty entrenched?

If he's even an upgrade, I don't think it's substantial enough to justify that hit. I'd rather let that money roll over into FA next year.

And isn't as good as he was when he was 24

That wasn't the point of the comment.

The way Ellerbe gets hurt one injury is a given so the 5th LB is likely to be the real next man up. I'd trust Riley there more than Stupar or Mauti.

At what cost?

Ellerbe is playing outside for us, not inside.

We have depth at lb this year. You're talking about a $2+ million cap hit for someone who'll play, even if ellerbe does get injured, a few snaps a game.

We'll very rarely actually be in a 4-3. You're going to see an extra DB as your real base defense, with JL, Ellerbe, and Anthony rotating in and out.

I doubt Riley will make much more than the vet minimum.

I'm pretty sure he has to have had a major injury and/or been out of the league for a year or two before we sign him to a contract.

But you have to take into account the price it costs to release Stupar. Even at the vet min, I believe you're looking at $2m + in a cap hit
