Use your own measurement of quality starters vs quality depth for your overall barometer.

Probably most notable weakest at time are: WR, G, TE. Maybe interior DL can be mentioned.

I'd have to say TE just because Watson is the only proven guy there. I think Hill has potential but who knows how he'll pan out becoming the main guy.

WR for me, because I don't really believe in Toon, but Payton seems to, so if he's right, then the position is better off than I think.

I think Watson has aged more than most are willing to admit.

Honestly we have a lot of weak positions, although some have potential.

WR- aging Colston, sophomore Cooks (WR's tend to have a slump their second year) and a bunch of unproven and former practice squad guys.

Guard- Kelemente isn't going to start at LG, maybe Peat does? And he's a rookie, unproven. Jahri wasn't the greatest last year and he's not getting younger.

TE- Ben Watson is old and Josh Hill is unproven. He won't be the next jimmy graham although people are hyping him up so much. Be realistic.

NT- really weak position for us last year and we didn't improve it. Jenkins is alright but a good NT is key in a 3-4 to stuff the run.

DE- Hicks and Jordan were great two years ago but were quiet last year.

OLB- hopefully all the crap with Gallette doesn't affect him. He was quiet at times last year too.Spencer isn't the answer nor is parys. Kikaha has question marks.

MLB- Hawthorne can't cover and Ellerbe hasn't played in a year. Stephone was considered a reach and not sure if he'll start or how good he'll since he is a rookie.

Safety- if vaccaro plays like he did last year we have a problem.

How about the guy that is slotted to start... Lelito

Not saying it's a position of a strength, but pretty bad to overlook.

So glad to see other people sharing this opinion with me. Watson seems like a great guy, and he's had a decent career, but he's 34 and has 362 passing yards combined the last two seasons. I don't get why everyone is so sold on him.

I'm more than ok going into the season with Hill as the starter, but I am pretty surprised that we didn't address TE at all in the draft with just an old Watson as a back up. I know Orson Charles and Lorig are both on the roster, but Charles is "just-another-guy", and Lorig hasn't been a full-time TE since college. I fully expect Harold Spears (UDFA, UNH)to make the team this year. It's too bad Ha'am and Jacobs (UDFAs last year), both were signed by other teams. They both seemed to have some good moments during Training Camp last season (IIRC, Ha'am more-so as a receiving TE, and Jacobs more-so for his blocking).

Guard by far. We have a 33? year old starter who has been injured badly the last two years and another guy who has had a few lackluster spot starts at guard and center. Unless one of the tackles moves inside this may prove to be the problem position this year.

Tight end is shallow. Watson is a capable starter and Hill will be a good receiver. After that we have nothing though. The full backs could spend time there to help out but they aren't vertical receiving threats.

Counting the "big" defensive end spot in with the nose tackle, this is a weak area with Hicks and Jenkins being inconsistent and Bunkley getting older and being injured two years running. Hopefully Davison and/or the UDFAs could provide quality depth.

Corner back and receiver have the same issue. You know the two starters but who is going to step up as the third and fourth guys. Receiver at least two guys after the starters who have had some production. Corner has some guys who were forced into a few starts, one guy who has had a subpar career, and a bunch of questions. Though I am more hopeful at these two positions than the ones above.

Edit:
And despite my concerns over specific positions on offense I think as a whole we are more than fine with plenty of receiving options and some guys capable of blocking. Still predicting a top 10 offensive finish with likely a top 5 passing game.

If the defense can be close to 2013 we are in great shape.

Watson is good and a solid vet. He's just a reliever at this point. He can probably take about 20%-30% of the offensive snaps. Hill is the question mark. But I'm comfortable with them as my #1 & #2 TEs.

WR is my biggest concern. Colston wasn't that good last year. Cooks got hurt and I'm not sure the team has decided on how they are going to use him yet. With Graham gone, there is going to be more pressure on the WRs. We may end up with a year like 2006 where a RB is our leading receiver.

Forgot about Lelito. I was looking at the depth chart and overlooked him. What happens with Peat then? Does he start over Armstead?

Nobody thinks Hill will be Jimmy Graham, but he doesn't have to be. A lot of us think he can be Jeremy Shockey though, and that's good enough.

We may have different definitions of capable, but I would consider Watson a below-average starter, if he was our starter.

Pretty sure that's why CSP didn't pick one up in the draft. Spiller better play his arse off.

Based on last years performance could it be safety?

Yeah, he's not our starter. I look at him like a back up QB. One of the better back up TEs in the league who can start a game or two if needed and provide some solid play along the way.

LB. No one on that unit has proved yet to be labeled higher than average, unfortunately.
