Okay, which one of you nominated Sharper for the Hall of Fame?

Pro Football Hall of Fame should know not to include a convicted rapist among nominees

It only takes a few clicks on the NFL’s official website to discover the answer to the most pressing question about the sport of football today: Yep, only one Darren Sharper ever played in the league, the one who lasted 14 seasons as a safety with the Packers, Vikings and Saints, the one named five times to the Pro Bowl.
Yes, and the one sentenced in August to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty in federal court to drugging three women for the purpose of raping them, the one then sentenced in Louisiana state court to another 20 years to run concurrently with the first term, the one who has pleaded guilty or no contest to similar charges in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Tempe, Ariz., the one who has been incarcerated for more than two years following his initial arrest in California.
quote:I mean, obviously, he's not going to get elected to the Hall, but still.
The Hall of Fame indicates that it has no say in who is elected or nominated to the Hall. “The only function of the staff is to process the nominations as they arrive and to coordinate the annual meeting,” its website states. It says anyone can nominate an eligible player or coach —which is to say, a player or coach who has been retired a minimum of five years.

Peter King is a backer of his candidacy but wouldn't vote Stabler in because Dr. Z wouldn't.

Stabler being a drunken a-hole is still a far cry from serial rape.
Maybe Sharper nominated himself from prison.
Or it was one of those wacky 4Chan pranks.

I think he's a HOF safety
Certainly played the game at a HoF level

He should. He lulled receivers to sleep and had his way with them.

It's the debate of whether the HOF should honor those based on their play on the field or take into account their off the field actions after they leave the game. Based on his play, he is clearly a HOF player.

Well, I think if the word "fame" comes into play as essentially as it should, given that it's part of the name, Sharper's incredible INfamy easily negates any accomplishments as a player.

I've seen similar debates on More Sports Board about this same topic. According to them, everything should be ignored except for what was done on the field. I disagree. frick that piece of shite and if he'd already been inducted, they should remove him. Some things transcend football and this is one of them.

Well they just elected Marvin Harrison who is highly suspected of having murdered at least one person in his lifetime.

I agree with you but I don't think you can compare Pete Rose's conduct and Sharper's. Rose should be in for sure.
