First off, Anyone who will respond with "Mike Smith is a terrible coach" or "Matt Ryan sucks", "officials give them everything" "they should have at least 6 or 7 losses". Please use the other threads for these extreme and blindly loyal statements.

I'm a falcons fan and was at the game last night and the main thing I come away with is that it is a toss up as to who will win if these teams see each other again in the playoffs.

The Sains are who I thought they were. A really good team with a really good QB and is one of if not the best team in the NFC. I was curious as to how the Falcons would handle the big time spot. The offense played pourly, made too many cotly mistakes and didn't play well enough to win. The Saints defense had a lot to do with that. I was impressed with how the Falcons defense played. Holding NO to 17 pts is a good performance and the Falcons should win in that situation.

The Saints and Falcons are both great teams. I know many of you are too "who dat" drunk to see that but it's the truth. I am looking forward to seeing this match up in the divisional round. And again I look for the game to go down to the wire and the team who makes the fewest mistakes wins. I am interested in anyone who is objective to respond on your thought of last night and the potential playoff match up.

by all means, this was a heavyweight playoff type game last night.

great game, two great teams.

better team won.

if we dont miss a chip shot in week 3, we sweep the series.

if the weirdest vetern center snap ive ever seen doesnt happen, or michael "never fumbles" turner doesnt fumble at the 1, the falcons may sweep.

ALRIGHT, some Falcons fan who hasn't lost their mind. Brilliant!

Give it up for Hartley, though. That 52 yarder was the difference in the game.

The Falcons are an interesting team. They are solid. However, a few things stand out. Unlike other teams with excellent records, they give up more yards per play than they gain. They lead the league (by a wide margin) in first downs gained by penalty. They've played a lot of really close games, and unlike great teams like last year's Saints, they lack what I would call a signature win, which is a win by a large margin over a good team. The Falcons win by not turning the ball over and outlasting teams. Teams like the Saints and Eagles will give them more than they can handle in the playoffs because both are dynamic offenses and pressure defenses.

my observation: I think Tirico had a bet that he could say 'penetration' 30 times in one broadcast.

oh yeah, and I hope either the Saints or the Vick end the Falcons season at the Dome.

have a great day.

I typed quickly and my spelling was poor. My apologies. Hartley's fg was stellar. he nailed it. everyone knows the week 3 miss was a fluke but that's the way it goes sometimes.

My "who dat drunk" comment wasn't an attempt to flame. every fanbase has fanatics who aren't objective and you know there are a lot on this board. I was hoping we could have an objective thread about the two teams.

Ever since the third long snapper came on, his kicks have been really pretty.

Can we say the same about the Saints?

I'd call this win a landmark win. Even though it might not get them the Division Title, it was definitely a statement that they can go on the road into a hostile environment and still beat one of the top two or three teams in the NFL.

The falcons are a solid team this year. But they play not to lose instead of playing to win and you could see that last night. It will likely come back to hurt them once playoff time comes around

I feel the same way. Doesn't matter to me that they're winning by small margins.

And if these two teams played head to head ten times on a neutral field, they'd split 5-5.

I agree that last nights win was a signature win for the Saints. They are playing as well as anyone and proved to win a big game on the road which is what will probably have to happen to get to Dallas.

These teams are very closely matched. I was very impressed w Van Gorder's defense schemes. He was great at UGA. What happened to Roddy White in the 3rd Quarter? Why did the Falcons rush 3 DL's on the key play of the game? (The one thing I think Van Gorder screwed up). It was a great game; hard fought and hard hitting. I think Tampa is a notch below these teams.
