There have been others injured after him that have already appeared on the IR. More medical confirmation? Sliver of hope? Inside skinny?

I'd like to be optimistic, but I don't see how he could return to full form this season. I suppose they could put him on that new IR where he can be activated mid-season, right?

What exactly are we hoping for? A 4 month turnaround on an ACL surgery?

Has there been an official release confirming it was an ACL?

Read a quote by Payton himself where he said it looked like a clean tear....as if he just tore it for the first time ( didnt say it was 3rd tear in the same knee).

If we wait he can be put on IR-Designated to Return. Iirc he has to be on the final 53 for at least a day to do that.

But this will likely depend on what other doctors say and how his surgery/rehab goes.

And I believe he can still go on PUP since this was pre training camp (and maybe from PUP to IR-DtR).

Point is there is zero reason to rush him on IR with all our options still open.

Still a glimmer of hope I would think that he could return if we get in the playoffs and make a run, but would think they would rather not risk it and get him fully healed as possible for '17.

No, I know the recovery times keep getting shorter but 1 year is still pretty standard. 6 months is not an option. Even Adrian Peterson's remarkable recovery 2 years ago where no one could believe he made it back so quick was 9 months...see you next year Pineapple Express.

If he undergoes dramatic ACL reconstructive surgery..... he sits out half the season rehabbing and they are willing to risk the REST of his career by putting him on the field THIS year......Thats Some Dumb shite !

They did the same thing with Butler. He will go on PUP then they will IR him after week 11 or something. They are not putting him at risk nor do they think he'll be back. I have no idea why but that's what they do.

Butler ended up being brought in for some practices I thought

They could be waiting to see the results of the surgery or other opinions before deciding what to do with him
