Undrafted rookie free agent Sean Hickey has received a signing bonus of $10,000 and has $12,500 of his 2015 base salary guaranteed, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Hickey, a former left tackle for Syracuse, started 38 games for the Orange and was a third-team All-ACC selection in 2014.
Hickey, 6-foot-5, 309 pounds is projected as a tackle or a guard in the NFL.
NFL teams have only $86,957 in 2015 signing bonuses to spread out to all of their undrafted rookies.
$10k bonus

So all these undrafted free agents are being signed to 3 year deals? What happens when we have to cut many of them to get down to the 53 man roster?

They play less than 3 years.
They don't all sign 3 year deals. 3 years is just the longest that is allowed. Plus, the contracts do not have any guaranteed money in them, unless the team chooses to guarantee a portion.

Nothing. The contracts aren't guaranteed. 99% of these guys get cut.
It protects the team in case you find a gem.

okay that's what I thought. The 3 year deals were just throwing me off especially when you look at how low their chances are of actually making the team. Basically it just benefits the team, not the player because he can be cut at any time without any detriment to the team. Thanks!
