Jairus Byrd - 30 million punt fielder
Dannell Ellerbee- how many games has he played since signing with the Saints last year....but that hot tub is really nice.
James Laurinaitis - " I could a been somebody.... I could been a star. How many millions are we paying to keep him on the bench?
....feel free to add. The sad thing is I think Ellerbee is very good when he plays.....key word....when

He's making $1.5 million. I've been pretty happy with our linebacking play, and I saw it as a depth move in the first place.
We didn't overspend for him. It isn't a bad contract, and if he doesn't work out, even as a backup, it isn't even a bad move.

the only good thing about this:
Ellerbe: 2/5mil contract right now (2.5mil/yr). High upside/low risk at this point and that is fair to say is worth the money. We were a better team and defense when (big when) he played last year. You could do worse for 2.5mil

Like this was worse, but they knew this was a possible outcome so look at how the contract was structured:
3/8.25mil; 1.8mil signing bonus
2016: 900k base salary, 50k workout bonus
Nothing guaranteed otherwise past this year. Cutting him going into 2017 saves you 2.15mil next year while only costing 1.8mil in dead cap over 2 years. Essentially paying him a 1yr/2.75mil contract.
