quote:Ricky Williams was productive and we traded him for 2 #1s. I would not put him anywhere near this list. No list is complete without Shaun Knight, Jonathan Sullivan and Les Kelley. Other than Erxleben, I cannot agree with any of your selection.
1.Russell Erxleben 2. Ricky Williams (just cause of what we gave up for him) 3. Patrick Robinson 4. Chris Naole 5. Alex Molden / Mark Fields

Top 3 for sure lock. But the Saints do have a handful of absolutely atrocious pretty much no nfl production careers.

Didn't we have a former astronaut as a GM

Yes.

Doesn't matter how good janikowski is dropping a K/P in the first should lead to an entire staff being fired. Unless he's hitting 75 hard field goals consistently

See--to me it's even worse when you have 100 WRs to choose from and use a top ten pick to pick a guy who lasts 3 seasons and catches 36 passes.
Ben Watson is our 3rd string TE and he still manages to catch 30 passes a year. Larry Burton couldn't crack a Saints WR corps that consisted of Don Hermann and Tinker Owens. That's an even more unforgivable error for me.

Not the Saints, but does anyone remember when Tampa accidentally picked the wrong first round guy in the early 80's? A Tampa rep called in the wrong guy to draft.

Jonathan Sullivan
The worst of them all IMO
All I can ever think of regarding Sullivan is the post-pick interview during the draft and Haslett saying "...we got our man..." all these following emotes apply...

Has anyone mentioned Les Kelly, Kurt Schumacher and John Shinners? Oldies but goodies.

Was it like a off the wall name or another first rounder?

can't believe we traded up to get that fat turd Sullivan too.
it would have been one thing to stay put and get him but.... NO!!!!!!!!!!
Ellis was okay for a few years but then he seemed to checkout after the 2010 season. Traded up for him too.

Fun fact 1: When the Saints traded a first round pick to get Earl Campbell, they traded George Rogers and got a first round pick back. The pick they made with that first round pick from the Redskins? Alvin Toles.
Fun fact 2: The player selected 2nd in the draft where the Saints took George Rogers 1st? Lawrence Taylor. But the Saints picked Rickey Jackson in the second round, so it kinda worked out in the end.

It's sad that when you bring up these lists, nobody's even mentioned Kevin Hardy, who might actually be the worst of them all.
The Saints drafted this clown in 1968 7th overall (Larry Csonka was one pick later). Then the NFL told the Saints that they had to give him to the 49ers as a penalty for signing Dave Parks away from the 49ers. Guy played from 1968 to 1972 and was garbage, making 11 career starts. The Saints did not miss him. At all.

1982 was our first year as season ticket holders.

Off and on season ticket holder. Not right now. First year my family had them were 79.
My first regular season game, I sat in the end zone where Russell Erxleben threw the pick-six to the Falcons in the end zone in overtime.

Section 151 was where we sat. Pop gave up the tickets in 95'

Shawn Knight at list's top.
Putting a name like Mark Fields as a top 5 first round bust doesn't give Saints fans much credibility. Didn't he make a Pro-Bowl?

Les Kelley gets my vote as it was such a perfect "Preview of Coming Attractions" from the Mecom-era Saints.
Honorable Mention is the Treasure Trove the %#£€%€ Jazz gave up for the disgruntled and worn-out Gail Goodrich, including what became the overall #1 pick in '79 which the Lakers used to pick some guy named Magic Johnson.
