Yes it would be I'd temper it a little and say that even if he can he won't be 100%.

By then hopefully Haralson, Galette, and Wilson are tearing shite up and he could play spot duty.

I do think way too many people(even media guys and especially the TP guys) completely missed the fact that he could be and has been PUPed and is not taking up a spot. So there is no reason to IR him until about week 10 if he isn't close.

Morgan can be one of those designated to return guys but I don't think we need him and we would have to cut someone else for a few days and hope no one snatches them up. Same goes for Vilma.

The 53 deadline is Aug 31 and the designated to return deadline is Sept 4(meaning they have to be on your roster through that day before you IR them).

Vilma can't be PUP because he practiced in training camp before getting hurt. Same as Morgan.

We can take Butler into the season on PUP(his injury was in OTAs) so he hasn't been and won't take up a spot until week 10 I think. Then we see where he's at.

I didn't realize that about Vilma. Good call.

I seriously doubt Butler comes back before late in the regular season. But you make a good argument to put him on the PUP.

Morgan just needs to rehab this year and come back next year ready to fight for his spot. At this point, I'm not sure he would have beaten out Stills anyway. How great would it be if Morgan came back next year, lit it up, and our WR corps was comprised of:
Colston
Moore
Stills
Toon
Morgan
Parker/Tanner/Roby

Not unless it just happened and money says he at least makes this round of cuts(we only need to cut 4 guys).

Butler's injury was what in early June? There's no way he would be ready any time during the regular season. Even AP who made a ridiculous recovery tore his ACL in December, and made it back for late August = 8-9 months. Playoff chances would be just as slim since the Superbowl is in early February. Not gonna tinker with a defensive lineup if we have gotten by without him at that point.

eta: Isn't there an IR with a designation to return that we could use?

It works pretty similar to PUP and is basically a way to use PUP on one guy that was injured during training camp/preseason but not before.

So it would actually be better to just keep him on PUP and wait and see.

I doubt he'll be back but there's no risk in just keeping him on PUP as we don't have to release anyone else and he doesn't take up a roster spot.

Cadet isn't PS eligible, but good job on the roster.

ETA: Atleast I don't think he is....maybe not Marcel Jones either.

Cadet is not eligible. He played 13 games(if you play 6 you are no longer eligible).

Jones was IRed last year(rookie year) and I think that was in preseason so he would be eligible.

An interesting thing I've been thinking about in Cadet vs. Robinson is that since Robinson can go on the PS we can essentially keep both players(Cadet 53; Robinson PS) and if Robinson starts showing he is clearly better and not just slightly better then they can cut Cadet.

Yep. They can even likely cut Cadet and put Robinson on the PS, calling either up if one of our top 3 backs gets hurt.

But I see it playing out as you describe.

A few weeks back, I would have said there was a great chance Robinson wouldn't make it out the waiver wire without getting picked up. I'm not 100% convinced of that anymore. After watching a bunch of preseason games, it seems that there are a lot of young RBs who are impressive and most probably won't the final 53.

I guess it all comes down to how he's handling the other things (blocking, catching balls...etc.) that make a RB roster worthy. I haven't focused on that; too busy watching him doing the "Ivory Steamroller" move.

I didn't realize cadet was active that many games.

Was marcel jones active at all?

No. I was corrected. He was IR'd in the preseason, so he would be eligible.
