Here's why:

For every mock draft you can give me that has Austin ranked higher than any of the guys I mentioned, I'll give you 10 that don't.
If the Saints pick a WR with the 15th pick considering what happened with the defense last season, we'll be the laughing stock of the entire league...that's called common sense.

I'd be surprised if the Panthers/Bucs pass on him.

and these mocks have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the Saints big board. It's a frickING MOCK DRAFT ON A WEBSITE. Thank God they don't base their assessments on players based off of some blogger.

also pretty sure Sean Payton couldn't give a single frick.
Again...just because some mock draft has these guys all in the same area doesn't mean the Saints...or ANY team in the nfl has them viewed as equals. They could have the pass rushers ranked in the top 5-10...or they could have them in the late 20s/2nd round. The same for Austin. WE SIMPLY DO NOT KNOW. Just because YOU perceive them as equal value does not mean any legitimate personnel guy does.

the Panthers need help on the D-line and the Bucs need help at corner. but yeah, they could just say "frick it" and load up on offense.
the bucs WR's would be a pretty formidable group if they drafted Austin. Just not sure if it would matter since Freeman is under center.

SIAP but Pitt trading from 17 to 15 may also be an option. They could definitely use a receiver and know the rams would take one off the board at 16. We probably wouldnt get much to move 2 spots, but you never know, maybe a 4th.

considering that the general thought amongst "experts" in the national realm is that this draft is loaded with no great players, your stance is wrong. if there were any "impact players" at the 15 spot, then you would be accurate; however, this is not the case. I saw Mayok say a couple weeks back that you can take all 32 "top" players this year, shuffle them up and you'd have some teams draft board. Here is this from Peter King's column yesterday LINK

That's what I was thinking. More than likely you'd get a 4th or 5th rounder or something.

Considering the piss poor drafting on the defensive side of the ball by the team, maybe the team should assess from "some blogger"...they, obviously, need help.

Well most of the piss poor draft picks have been guys who were highly touted coming out of college Just like these guys you are currently valuing so highly. So if they feel really good about an offensive player I hope they pull the trigger.

Unless we think Austin is going to suck, I'd rather not trade with the 9ers so long as another team makes an offer ~90% as good. I think he ends up going to Carolina, though.
