24 year old veteran

Read my post about leadership. He's lacking there. He's still a damn good player with loads of talent.

That was fricking pathetic...like we are all supposed to be mad at Meachem for wearing a Chargers uniform. I'm more pissed that Jenkins is wearing a Saints uniform.

He's turning into the kind of shithead that Steve Smith is, except that Smith backs it up on the field.

I personally think tackles are a pretty useless stat for gauging defensive ability unless you put up a monster number like over 200. You can see good defensive players. Shanle has led the team or been close every year since he's been here. Does that make him a good player?

One thing it maybe says in defending the passing game is you are targeted? Shanle gets targeted constantly as a weakness thus he always is getting tackles of receivers he failed to prevent catch the ball. The ball is gonna go where the perceived weakness is.

I lol'ed when he started mugging after the receiver dropped a pass in the endzone. As if he ripped it out of his hands even though he was 10' away.

He is pretty slow. Poor tackling technique. Takes poor angles. Can't blitz worth a shite. Seems confused by the most basic of routes and coverage concepts. Can't catch at all. Zero ballhawking instincts.

But yep, he has loads of talent...

So does my tackling stats come into play at all here? Seriously asking you guys...because if he's so bad then he wouldn't even be around the ball to get all those tackles...and missed tackles too as y'all like to point out.

His tackling stats are inflated because A)hegets a ton of chances because of everything the front 7 misses (which is a lot considering they're statistically the worst front 7 in football) when he's back in coverage and B) just like Harper he spends too much time near the line of scrimmage because he sucks in coverage.

You're talking out of your arse, HandGrenade.

Malcolm Jenkins should be one of the leaders of our defense given the responsibilities he has this year, and he's certainly come up short in that aspect.

no matter how ya view tackles this is a fair take

I've had a lot of leeway for Jenkins moving to safety and now a new scheme. I'm still on the hope train for him but it certainly isn't chugging forward with great anticipation anymore. I've always been bothered by a lingering memory of LSU carving him up in the 07 BCSCG. Lafell owned him.

Personally, I have to side with handgrenade on some of these issues.

I think his tackling and hitting is actually pretty good. He almost always brings down wr's and most of the time hb's. Sometimes he tries to lay the wood and ends up not stopping the guy; but not enough to where I noticed.

He does however seem completely lost in the passing game (which is pretty damn important for a FS); which is puzzling. His attitude is pretty annoying when hes getting burnt.

There is one play stuck in my mind that jenkins had to work hard NOT to make a play. He was in perfect position to bat the ball away or intercept it and he unexplainably turns away from the receiver at the last moment. Boggles my mind.

This is you talking out of your arse. To say a professional athlete thinks like this is just plain wrong. They cheat up because of your point A that the front 7 are always getting rocked, which weighs on the safeties decision making big time.
