And Chris Dunnels is an idiot. Let's not start using bloggers as credible sources. You always fail in those instances. They usually know less than the "expert" reporters.

These draft choices are due the same League Year in which the player was signed, and a team without the required picks can’t sign the RFA to an offer sheet (Sec. 3, (c), 39).

I'm still searching for the part where it says it has to be the new team's original pick. I know someone reported that but I haven't found it myself yet.

He's referring to that article.

Of course, it can't happen, because Butler can't be signed to an offer sheet after the 21st.

Yeah where the frick is that info coming from?

The deadline is 6 days before the draft, so it's literally impossible to sign him to an offer sheet two days before.

Is that NBA rules or something?

Anyway this is a GREAT writeup on the situation:

I don't know his source but according to him the pick would have to be the team's original pick or higher. You can't cheat and trade down.

Still looking for the actual rule though.

Still looking through the rules but the guy was correct about that article being in there so I have to apologize some.

BUT that is written in case the draft is moved and isn't 35 days or more after the start of FA.

From everything I'm reading it's impossible this year for that article to come into effect. It would have to be this year's pick.

Article 9, Section 3, c(iii)

quote:

Any Club that does not have available, in the upcom-
ing Draft, the selection choice or choices (its own or better choices in the applicable
rounds) needed to provide Draft Choice Compensation in the event of a timely First
Refusal Exercise Notice may not sign an Offer Sheet in such circumstances.

So it has to be 11 or better this year.

I agree with u guys it doesn't make since if offer deadline is april 21 six days before draft why the cba contract reads that way. Butler I think has till june 15th to sign his tender. I was just trying to point out what I read. I didn't believe just what dunnels said I looked up the cba rules which u guys did too. Its all cool thought thanks guys. the rules need updating lol
