Could Tom Benson effectively give Brees some small ownership % to offset the contract Brees will want next year, so we could have more cap space?

Could be a handshake deal once he retires...

Then Brees moves the team to San Diego.

Handshake deals work for Brady. The Saints try it and Handshakegate topples the franchise. Goodell would cream his pants.

This is dumb. Brady & the Pats have gotten fricked just as much, if not more, by the league than we have. They just actually win in response

Why would he ever give up a portion of ownership?

Yet you think the Saints got fricked over. So when Roger screwed the Saints, he still displayed enough professionalism that you assume everything else he did was fantastic?

They did. The Saints were punished in an effort to curb a common practice among NFL teams.

Absolutely not. Goodell is a dipshit but his punishment of the Patriots was warranted. They cheated to gain a competitive advantage which actually harms the league product. Brady and Belichick are both cheaters and the Patriots will be viewed as a cheating, dishonest organization until both of them leave.

I am happy. Falcons blew a 28-3 lead. Thanks Pats

There is a handshake deal between Brady and Kraft. I am only referencing that in relation to salary cap. I am in no way commenting on Spygate or Deflategate.

If the Saints try any manipulation of the cap, there will be suspensions, fines, and loss of draft picks.

There's no handshake deal, Brady's wife just makes more than he does. It's easy to give your team a discount if your wife is pulling in 30 plus million a year.

I think it is easier for Brady because he knows the process works and has a team around him ready to compete. So if he is willing to give 8-10 million off his salary he knows that means the Pats will get 1-2 players to split time in the rotation or pay 3-4 guys a little more to keep them on the roster.

Right now Brady is on a mission to stack up Championships and for him he cannot get enough. I honestly think at this point he would just about play for free if it meant a title and if the NFLPA didn't flip their lid.

I can't say the same for Brees. If you said you can make 5 million in 2017 but you will win another Super Bowl would he take that deal...Maybe it is a moot point.

The last thing one would do at this point in time is have a hand shake deal with Benson about anything

frick you.

You can add up the punishments and suspension for the two separate times they have been caught actually cheating and cheapening the game of football and they don't equal the sanctions we received because a disgruntled ex-employee handed Goodell a crumpled napkin with some names on it that factually ended up being nothing.

Short answer to OP is no, you can't hide salary that way. They can give him ownership I assume but not in lieu of salary as way of avoiding the cap.
