STATEMENT FROM TOM BENSON ON PASSING OF HIS BROTHER LARRY BENSON

For Immediate Release: October 28, 2013

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to learn about the passing of my brother, Larry. He was not only a brother but a friend. We shared the excitement and thrill of owning sports franchises, automobile dealerships and other similar businesses both together and separately. This was very unique to me and something I cherished greatly. Larry’s passion for business and sports was tremendous, but it was his passion for life, helping those in need and friends that will define my brother. He loved to travel and share those experiences with his family and friends. He loved the thrill and excitement of Saints game day and the tip off of an NBA game, especially his San Antonio Spurs. One of Larry’s proudest moments was serving as the 65th El Rey Feo this past April, which in San Antonio is a very distinguished honor. El Rey Feo is responsible for raising millions of dollars for local students to continue their education. He will be greatly missed by both his immediate family, his son Larry, his extended family in San Antonio and New Orleans, his friends and the people that he worked with.

Wasn't he part of another ownership group trying to buy the Hornets before Tom did?

Had the pleasure of meeting Larry a few times. Very nice guy and easy to get along with.

Perhaps this isn't appropriate for this thread but, the Bensons' strong connections to San Antonio worry me.

At this point, I don't think this is a legitimate concern.
