One problem- We don't have the players the Giants had.

This

Will Smith is a little above average. The rest of our d line is mediocre at best.

Well then, I expect defensive talent evaluation to improve.

Spags isnt the GM, though. Maybe he gets some input in but we've been bad on defense for a while now through multiple d coordinators.

Our scouts can find offensive players at Tiffin and Towson but can't find defensive impact players for anything.

I think have a good core of talent on the defense we just lack a couple pieces. I think you guys are underestimating the guys we have.

I'm hoping we will draft a pure pass rusher. I don't have a problem with guys like Juneyah or Jordan but I think Will Smith's best days are behind him. I wouldn't even mind getting an interior lineman. I like the guys that we have and will support them as long as they are here but the defensive line needs improvement.

I don't want to leave out Greg Romeus, I can't wait to see this guy next year.

Edit: I don't know if we can land a "pure pass rusher" in the second round. The elite guys from this year's class will probably be gone by the time we pick.

I dont know what it would take to get him but I know Spags old buddy Osi Umenyiora wanted out of N.Y. when the season started. Sure would be cool to have him here.

I think Martez Wilson will turn out to be a steal from last years draft. He showed promise this season when he had playing time. He is quick and was supposed to be a high draft choice before his injury in college. Let's hope that he can be the dynamic pass-rusher the Saints need.

Actually the giants, with the same if not better personnel, regressed big time when Spags left

How can the Saint's FO be so good at finding offensive talent at every level of the draft but suck arse at finding defensive talent? It's freaking mind numbing.

Until proven otherwise, I think we have the talent. We need someone with fresh ideas and schemes that will make these players successful.

That said, I'm sure there will be a nice turnover of players from the D

There's 6 years of proof under Payton

We've blamed everybody but the players.

The original DC was too conservative and didnt blitz enough. GW bltized too much...

How about a DLine that actually does their job.

We will know this year. Yes we have 6 yrs, but Gibbs was a terrible DC and Williams had players regress under him. Spags has a history of making players good/great, so this will be the true test. It just doesn't make sense that Porter, Smith, Jenkins, Franklin and Ellis all regressed this last year; there has to be something on the coaching side. Sometimes coaches don't teach and develop players properly, sometimes they put them in bad schemes, and sometimes they do both.

I'm just saying that it's too soon to judge either the players as bad draft picks or as poor coaching. If they continue to be busts this season, then we will have our answer

Did they really regress, though? Or were they just the players that they are?

I actually think the LBers and secondary were fine this year. All of our problems stem from the front 4 being a joke.

I think Will Smith has 2 double digit sack seasons in 8 or 9 years? 1 in the last 5 years? Maybe he's just not all that good.

Ellis has had 4 years to show he's just average.

I thought our Franklin and Rogers did their jobs this year. They clogged the middle, our run D was solid. Cam Jordan was also good against the run.

Why are we counting on late round picks and UDFAs to be our pass rushers? I just think we lack the talent to rush the passer.

We just don't have the cash to be badass on both sides of the ball. But we can definitely improve and if we are just a solid middle of the road defense we should always have a chance.

And please GOD always cover Vernon Davis with a safety over the top and a man to man defender.
