That's why we didn't get rid of him. He's a Saint through and though, just like Colston.

And this is a prime example why the Saints will never be in cap hell. Unless we go 14-2 because all of our players are badasses who need to get paid.
At 7-9 a lot of players sucked last year. This league is so competitive your salary can easily go from 10 million to a million overnight. And this is across the board at every position.

Yall do realize the Graham trade and all the cuts were done to give us cap flexibility in the future. We were technically in cap hell, but Loomis just crawled us out.

So sign Anthony Spencer and then get ready for the draft

Not that Spencer, Wilson, and Morgan plug holes long term, but assuming we sign Spencer, it at least gives us some better flexibility in the draft.

I can't imagine with the way those guys played it gives us real flexibility in the 1st few rounds.

Wilson may not make the team as a slot guy and Morgan has never been reliable to count on. I just see them as guys with some ability to compete at a cheap price.

Oh and WOW thats cheaper than I would have ever thought. Lets draft a couple of G/T for competition and may the best two guys in camp win.

Here are the numbers per Ravens Insider: (how the frick does this guy get everything??)

quote:

New Orleans Saints veteran offensive guard Jahri Evans got a $5.4 million signing bonus and $9.5 million guaranteed in his $18 million contract extension, according to a league source.

Evans ‘ salary-cap figure is now $7 million for 2015, down from $11 million

His base salary is now $1.003 million, which is fully guaranteed, down from $6.8 million. He has a $500,00 roster bonus paid on the 15th day of the league year and a $200,000 workout bonus.

In 2016, Evans has a $8.2 million salary-cap figure, down from $9.16 million.
Evans is due a $3.8 million base salary ($2 million of it is guaranteed) in 2016, down from $8 million, has a $500,000 roster bonus due on the 15th day of the league year and a $200,000 workout bonus. He also has an escalator clause.

In 2017, the new year in the deal, Evans has a $7.8 million salary cap figure, a $4.9 million base salary, a $1 million roster bonus, a $100,000 workout bonus and an escalator clause.

Looks like Evans is pretty much a lock for two more seasons in black and gold. In 2016 the dead money for cutting him is 5.3 million, but in 2017 it drops to 1.8 million.

I agree. I was speaking more of mid-late round picks. I think the plan stays the same in the first 2 rounds. In fact, I still think Waynes should be our pick at 13, if available.

numbers are slightly different from New Orleans Advocate

quote:

By re-working his contract and adding an additional year to his deal, the New Orleans Saints guard is now scheduled to count $7 million against the cap instead of $11 million.

The guard received a $5.4 million signing bonus as part of the deal, according to a source. His three-year deal contains $9.5 million guaranteed.

Evans’ base salary is fully guaranteed in 2015 and he will also receive a roster bonus of $500,000 and a $100,000 workout bonus. His base salary is down from his previously scheduled $6.8 million.

Evans will received a $3.8 million base salary in 2016, $2 million of which is guaranteed. He also has a $1 million roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus. His total charge for that season will be $8.2 million, down from $10.2 million.

In 2017, Evans has a $4.9 base salary, $1 million roster bonus, and a $100,000 workout, for a total cap charge of $7.8 million.

The deal contains salary escalators in 2016 and 2017.

Frick yeah. Now we can sign all our draft picks and still have some cash left over in case we need to sign some depth due to injury

Only the top 51 or 52 count, so we should have room to go after free agents if we want

Only the top 51 count right now. After the final cut down the top 53 plus the PS and IR players start counting. It's only about an additional $2m for the 52nd and 53rd players and the PS.

So basically we have just enough room for our draft picks and the regular season adjustments so don't expect us to sign anyone for more than the minimum unless another move is made.
