Spotrac has us saving 3.1mil from cutting him
LINK /
But OTC has us saving 1.1mil (before june 1) or 2.9mil (june 1 cut)
confused!

THANKS JAHRI, indeed!
Spiller and Zach have similar June 1 savings, but unless either of them publicly wants to leave, there is no big benefit for us to rush to designate them or even make the decision till after the draft. Zach may end up being worth too much too us, and CJ might still be worth something to another team.
What is left right now:
Restructure or ride out Drew.
Restructure or CUT Ellerbe.
Retire, or restructure Colston.
Extend and restructure Unger.
Extend and restructure Morestead.

Don't forget, Jordan's restructure that saves us 7mil this year.

Thank You, Jahri! You sir were a class act and had a helluva career in the black & gold!

That's a tough one to take. Down to what--Drew, Colston and Strief? And two of those might be about to be gone.
6 years ago. It's starting to feel like 25.
THANK YOU, JAHRI EVANS. You were one of the best.

So I wonder if this means Andrus Peat stays inside and they draft another tackle this year?
Wouldn't be against it tbh, he looked good at guard

quote:I don't think we draft another tackle. Andrus is going to be our right tackle, but it definitely means we don't cut Zach yet either till it's sorted out after the draft. Ignore the first round. Most of these guards who could be there 2nd round would replace Andrus at guard. Few of the tackles who would be there would replace him at tackle. So when trying to put together the best duo for us, we'll draft the cheaper guard.

Even in the 2nd, it would take a stud like guard Cody Whitehair falling to get us to jump on taking another lineman early. Otherwise, we are looking at the next tier of guards, who are still solid, in round 3-4?
More likely you get to the 3rd round, and Landon Turner, Josh Garnett or Christian Westerman are sitting there... then you take one of them. Not as sure a thing as Whitehair maybe, so, then keep Zach one more year in case Andrus needs to kick inside still at times.

Evans and Grubbs at guard were a force I will miss.
To hell with Grubbs. There was a better guard combo during Evans stay.

Yap
Nicks and Evans

thank you Mr. Evans!
Coupled with Nicks has to be the best Guard duo in Saints history. A key component in Payton's good start and mnaking it to a SB in year 4.
Don't think there are any guards that will get #12 consideration but it certainly moves it up for need.

I believe it actually saves us $4.5.
$6 million roster bonus over 5 years instead of 1
But still, we should be just about under the cap after it, and we still have Ellerbe, Brees, Colstons, etc.
Cap Heck at most

I'm not a salary cap professor, so I hope I'm not over my head when I say this. But I have no idea what's taking so long in restructuring or extending Drew Brees' contract. That seems like the absolute number one thing that needs to happen right now. While all these players are falling off the wayside the QB sits atop the food chain.
And I freaking love Drew Brees more than any athlete I've ever watched play. I have never loved an athlete more. Until Kris Bryant, of course, but that's another sport.

I mean there really isn't a rush until FA.
These were moves that were happening regardless and really have nothing to do with Brees
He's said he's willing to come to the table, but we're going to be under the cap before touching him. Gives the saints some leverage in negotiations. Furthermore, his guarantee doesn't hit until Wednesday, so it makes sense from Drew's camp to wait until after Wednesday
Good question
