Pretty much all of this. I tore an MCL at the NCAA level and I pretty much reevaluated everything, and ultimately made the decision to make a living doing something that wouldn't inhibit my ability to walk later in life. Glad to see another athlete on here.

Seriously bro?!?! You will need to back up who u and what $$ u turned down are if we are going to take this seriously. Byrd got paid a ton of $$ and the rumor is even the Saints are questioning what his deal is. The guy has barely been present at all at any practices & no games. If he needs to walk away from football then he should retire so the Saints aren't paying in to sit on the sidelines.

I was just as happy as anybody when we first made the move. But after watching him in the limited action from last year, I'm nervous as shite.

He wasn't that good before the injury to be honest.

We're probably not getting better safety play than we have right now even if he does come back...especially when you consider that he hasn't played in a year or practiced full speed.

This is eerily similar to the Derrick Rose situation in Chicago a few years ago

Yes, RUMOR

We put him on the PUP. There have been zero indications outside of this thread of any issue with him and the staff

We also have a ton of secondary guys we're evaluating, so the sooner we bring him back, the sooner 1 gets cut.

Until there is something substantial, I'm going to assume we're being cautious and he'll be back next week

I hate to bitch about the FO, but people knew he wasn't healthy before we signed him.

He had a lingering injury. The same goes for Spiller. How these guys are put on PUP or missing games before getting injured as a Saint is a failure of the pro personel guys and ML.

Just calling a spade a spade.

We need to do more homework / physicals before shelling out big money to free agents.

Knee injuries are half mental. If he's not where he wants to be, I'd rather him sit than play half-arse.

I do agree that the move to get Byrd has taken an unfortunate turn for the worse, but I don't think it's what either party intended to happen.

This so-called "lingering injury" had nothing to do with the injury he sustained in New Orleans

While true, EVERY player and EVERY injury heals different. Again, I hate to compare myself to a professional athlete being that they have far superior resources for rehab, and also have a far greater risk, but out of my three ACL tears/surgery, no two healed the exact same.

There is no excuse for a professional athlete to have a longer than expected recovery due to the "mental aspect".

I am just as frustrated with the Byrd situation as everyone else, but I totally disagree. Honest question, have you ever had to come back from an injury? Whether you think he's taking longer than he should or not, to discount the mental aspect of rehabbing an injury shows a lack of understanding in this situation.

Seriously bro?!?! You just said your "sources" that cover the organization said there is a rift growing with nothing to back it up. Can you back up your "facts" before you call other people out to do it?

The part that gives me big concern is that he is no where to be found at practice or at the games. If he just "doesn't feel ready" then why isn't he at practice on the bike or on the sidelines for the games with the rest of the team.

my god at the number of people that bit on the OP's thread simply because he says "he knows someone in the front office".

well played OP - you set the hook on a record haul.

I don't really doubt the nature of what he's "reporting" but it does come off in a bad way when he starts yapping about he knows people who cover saints (who really don't know shite more than we do) then he all of a sudden has a friend that works for organization who verified something he heard from the ones that cover the saints all within a matter of minutes.

the thing I don't get is this.

he gets better treatment than the average joe right?

I mean I got hurt playing high school ball a few times too. I suffered a few concussions but you know what? There was no "protocol" even back then in the late 90's. I just had to sit out about 3 days sometimes. The most I had to miss at one time was a week.

point is, pro athletes receive high quality treatment so I don't know if trying to compare things from our own experiences is the best way to go.

But I do get where you are coming from.

Never said I had a friend in the organization. I know people who cover them and they are just saying his absence from everything team related is highly suspicious.

ETA: I did say works with but I meant in a coverage capacity and not actually with the organization. Also some of them do know more than us bc they are at the facility on a daily basis. Some also have a good relationship with the coaches.

What they have said is "strange" is his absence from everything football related. The dude is just MIA which just seems odd.

that's a bit misleading then. so all your source is is some sort of wannabe journalist? No offense, i had them too, i usually knew more than them at all times. They see more sometimes but with byrd, there's nothing really to actually see.

I wonder how people might have gotten that impression.

It doesn't matter right now. We have one more game for the bottom of the roster guys to show something and then we start to really worry about whether Byrd will be playing week 1.
