Kid has the tools and the arm. Will get 3 great years of learning from Brees. Gritty player. Lots of work to be done with him and transition will take some time. But the kid has the look of a great qb and a Payton guy.

We should draft him first.

He's got the best physical tools of anyone in this class, and I'm not sure it's overly close.

Get him late 2nd/early 3rd, develop him for 3 years, and we're styling.

Would love to take him in the middle of the draft where he is graded. I think he'll be the X factor qb this year. Someone is going to draft him real early and he's not worth an early puck with all the work we have to do in the draft.

If we get an edge rusher at 13 and Kendricks at 31 I would love Petty at 44

When did the team sign Brees to an extension?
What were the terms? Because he's owed $27.4M next year. So, if he wants $15M a year for the extra 2 years, that's $57.4M for the 3 years or $19.1M a year average.

We'll get a real good clue if he's worth it this season.

I think they're going to extend Brees after this season and lower his cap # for 2016 and it'll get lower each year after that.

I would take Petty in the third and be happy about it.

I just don't think Petty lasts that long. Maybe our 3rd and a 5th to move up to the top of the 3rd would get him but he would press a few starters on teams drafting ahead of us in the 3rd like the Jets or Browns.

I think they'll try to extend him...there's no doubt about that. The real question is what Brees wants. The last time the parties sat at the negotiation table it got prolonged and very tense. Brees squeezed the team for every nickle.

If Brees wants Top 5 money for the extension, the FO may have to move in a different direction (Peyton Manning just found that out at Denver).

If there isn't a backup plan, the team is screwed by not having more cap room by signing some asinine extension...or starting some numb-nut QB.

I agree with you. Maybe we could trade down from 44.

I like Petty and think he has great potential....maybe even better the Winston and Mariota, but, like you've said, where should he be picked if that's the plan?

With only two QBs projected early in the first round and a number of teams hurting in the QB department, Petty could go off somewhere in the late 1st or early 2nd.

There's no way they pick him with #31 (will be seen by Brees as an insult and may divide the team). I think you pick him at #44. If Payton thinks Petty is the guy, why risk losing him in an attempt to move down? You don't.

Agreed. Wouldn't be surprised to see Petty, Grayson, and Hundley all gone mid 3rd. I think if we take any QB in this draft, it'll be Mannion 5th or later.

Payton isn't going to waste a second round pick on a QB
