Literally everything I've read about the guy said he is a pass rush specialist best suited to play in a 3-4. Nowhere did I read anything about him being a traditional olb.

I read that he would stand up sometimes, which to me just means he would rush the qb with his hand off the ground. I think that's where the confusion is coming from about him being a traditional olb, which he most definitely wasn't. You see this same thing in the NFL.

All the reports list run defense as his biggest weakness. Only one report mentioned that he sometimes would drop back into a short zone. That same report listed pass coverage as a weakness.

It's kind of sad that people are making this dude out to be way more than what he is, when what he actually is was perfect for us on it's own. He is not a traditional olb. He is a small de pass rusher who has to transition to 3-4 olb, just like all the other tweener edge rushers.

He had 140+ tackles and 40 tackles for a loss the last two years. He can play the run. Averaging 20 tackles for a loss a year in a 12-13 game season is pretty damn good.

And I never said he was great in coverage, just that he has played in coverage unlike a lot of these other one dimensional pass rusher that played DE or rush LB exclusively (or almost exclusively).

So yeah he is a true standup versatile OLB. He has done all those things in college. I never claimed him to be flawless or good at everything, just competent at the least.

Aren't sacks counted as tackle for loss?

My point was that he is actually not any different from the other guys. Fowler played everywhere for Florida. Dupree supposedly dropped into coverage quite a bit. And other guys like Gregory, Ray, and Beasley are all athletic enough to potentially be okay at it, more so than Kikaha.

Just because Kikaha did it occasionally, doesn't make him versatile. Literally all of these guys could do it. Isn't the point to be at least decent at it? Having done multiple things doesn't make you versatile. Being good or decent and multiple things makes you versatile. Even by your own post, he doesn't qualify, at least not for the coverage part.

Fowler and Dupree are over 260 lbs. Those are not the guys being talked about.

And Kikaha is more like the smaller tweeners than he is Dupree and Fowler.

Ray and Beasley are both around 245. If Gregory is the only guy that fits the description, this thread is kind of pointless. My point still stands. Even if you exclude Gregory, all these other guys are similar. The argument is that Kikaha is more versatile, which isn't true.

First Glance Scouting Report Comments for Kikaha- nfl.com, cbs, walter:

Kikaha led the nation in sacks. He gets to the quarterback in a variety of ways. His effort is outstanding. You're drafting him to get to the quarterback" -- Daniel Jeremiah

Perceived as a one-trick pony (pass-rush specialist). Upfield specialist and doesn't set the edge consistently. Needs work on playing consistently in space.

While he seems to specialize in just rushing the passer, Kikaha has the power, hands and frame to improve against the run. It might take some work to get fully comfortable as a stand-up 3-4 OLB

Q: What position do you want to play at the next level?
A: I need to get after that quarterback, that's my preferred position.

Natural pass-rusher
Extremely consistent with sack production
Excellent in pursuit
Can bend around the edge
Has some pass-rushing moves

Could stand to improve downhill run defense
Not overly big or physical
Quick, but not fast off the edge
Undersized
Can struggle in coverage

Can be run at and controlled in the run game, too easily moved from his spot. Moves well, but not a twitchy athlete. Tends to get lazy with his tackling technique at times and needs to be a more consistent finisher. Too many ankle biting tackle attempts, needs to better break down on the move. Needs to improve his anticipation and instincts in coverage.

Thank you. I actually read the analysis from the sites you listed. There is nothing about him being versatile, and run defense and pass coverage are clear weaknesses. The idea that he is different and more versatile because he is 250 instead of 245 is silly.

I like the pick, and like the player, but people in this thread have blatantly made him something he isn't.

I lived back that way for awhile, hard to do for a young man from the UpT.
