Whatever he's teaching/scheming isn't working. The players don't trust him. There are several teams with limited personnel yet still get 3rd down stops. We are so easily fooled.

I'm not sure any D coordinator could make this personnel work.

He'll probably get another year because of the injuries, but his scheme has been awful this year.

The defense is young, injured, lacking leadership, and patched up.
Ryan shouldn't leave after this year. Give him some time to develop the team.

Half the D is out on IR.
We had a top 4 defense because of him last year. We just need some new personnel. Fault isn't on him alone.

It ain't just him. The talent on that defense just isn't there. Not that there ever was. Payton never could and never will build a consistent defense. This is a fact. Doesn't matter how many DCs you change
