We've literally done everything possible to correct the problem. It comes down to 3 things:Offensive coaching, defensive coaching, & drafting.
Our past 2 drafts seem to be about as good as you can ask for(the addition of Ireland & cleaning house with the scouting department is the reason for this). We've never had an offensive coaching problem with CSP here. I thought Aaron Glenn & Allen did a good job with the secondary last year...considering the hand they were dealt. I think it is more of lack of understanding how good this guy is than just apathy. Is there an injury risk? Yes. Is he a potential true shutdown corner? Yes. The D needs playmakers. He is just that.
They stuck by their board. Virtually everyone had him a whole level higher than Barnett. I don't see how anyone with injury concerns could promote Allen over him. His arthritic shoulders is why he dropped. Already has been mentioned the scheme would have to be adjusted to accommodate him positionally too.

Truth is Saints fans don't want you to shite on NOBODY the Team picks...
I caught flak for criticizing the Grayson pick. Just like the way people are responding to those criticizing the lattimore pick.

This response is to try to clarify my opinion to the name callers on this site.
I apologize if I have a different opinion than others, but It's not like it's coming out of left field!
It's pretty much a given that the best thing you can do to improve your secondary is improve your pash rush ( pressure the QB, not necessarily sacks!)
Even in today's NFL.....it all starts with the OL and DL. Period.

Hey karralum ....you were correct...the Grayson pick was obviously a mistake...I also agree with you on the rest of your comments...
Our drafts under SPayton have been deplorable...some of the worst in the league over his tenure....pretty much one great draft.
SPayton has proven to be a terrible talent evaluater in the draft and FA.
It's because of Jeff Ireland that we had the very good draft last year.
Also because of Jeff Iteland that we had a very good offseason in FA this year and what looks to be an outstanding draft this year!
It's been long overdue....
Not to mention the good ole boys in the coaching staff that have been a constant drag on our team finally being eliminated!
Plenty of reason for optimism going forward!!!

People are apathetic about the pick bc he has a serious injury history and played one full season of college football. If he has no hamstring issues his rookie season, I will be ecstatic as he has the potential to be the best corner in the league.
