It would be one of the biggest heist in the history of Bill Belichick's career. They probably won't match the offer. Meaning the Saints would have given up both Cooks, their 118th pick and their 11th pick in the draft for Butler, the Pats 32nd and 103rd pick.

When the cooks deal happened nearly everyone talking about the Cooks trade said, you just know that the Pats have something up their sleeves. Lol

No. This isn't how it would work at all.

they aren't signing butler and giving up another pick.

they are simply just meeting to work out the terms of a long term deal if we trade for him.

if both butler and the saints agree on a "preposed" contract that he would sign with us, then the saints will know if they want to trade for him and likewise butler wont sign the pats tender to allow that unless he knows he will get a contract he is happy with.

how can you not understand all of this? it has been explained several times over in 5 or 6 butler threads already

the only question at this point is are we going to offer them a 2nd or a 3rd round pick? or will they insist on getting their #32 back?

As explained, that isn't what is happening here.

We would work out a deal.

He would sign his tender. We then trade with NE for less value and sign him to a deal.
