I think we have to assume Haason Reddick is a real possibility at 11.

He is absolutely flying up draftniks draft boards. Big trend for him, I'm even seeing him at 11,12,13 with some regularity. I wouldn't be surprised if there's talk of him in the top 10. Generally this is just the amateurs catching up to what teams know.
Here we have a guy that was ULTRA productive, and then backed that production up with a spectacular combine. He is an elite pass rusher in college with a great skillet. He's played, DB, LB and DE so he's had training at all three levels.
The problem with us, obviously, is fit. He doesn't. He's small. No chance he can play 4-3 DE. At best he'd play WILL, which many think might be his best fit. He'd be a situational pass rusher at first.
But who cares where we get the pass rush from as long as we get it? If he can be an elite rusher... Do it. You can still draft a 43DE and a CB early.

So why pick him? Too small (DE) and too big (LB) for our style of play.

He's not too big for OLB. He's 237. He'd be fine as a WILL. I don't know. We keep talking about pass rush and this guy might be the best pass rusher in the draft.
And Rob Rang now has him going 9 to Cincy. He's skyrocketing up.

reminds me of Mingo a bit, and as you said, i dont think he fits. Would rather a more traditional OLB or DE

The more profiles I read the more people say he can be a 43 Will or a 34 ILB.
I think I might be wrong on fit.

A sightly taller Elvis Dumervil clone IMO

He's better in space then that. I dont think he's going to be much of a pass rusher.

He is nowhere near the best pass rusher in the draft. Garret, barnett, williams, mckinley, mcdowell, smoot, ejuan price, derek rivers, just naming a few off the top of my head.
He is a great pass rusher, for a LB. Which is where his hype is coming from. He'd give versatility at that will LB spot, he can blitz effectively and has the athleticism and size to cover tight ends with ease , as well a being a solid tackler.

That is a skill set that is hard to find. If that's true, then I'd be okay with the pick.

Never comfortable with guys who "fly up draft boards" based on the combines. I guess I always fear the Mike Mamula type.
Well, first of all, he produced elite numbers to go with his elite athleticism displayed in workouts.
2nd, most nfl scout people will tell you that guys generally only "fly up draft boards" among the amateur draftniks and TV people. Those people are generally catching up with what the NFL people already think, and their boards don't move a whole lot.
Sometimes players move when their production is great but doubts about athleticism, and then those doubts are put at ease.

Sounds like a safe pick.

I'd love for the Saints to make a big play moving up from their 2nd round spot into the first round... late teens early 20's.
End up with 3 1st round picks.
Some combination of DE, OLB, TE.

He played DB in high school, played OLB to start his career in college, and then played as an undersized DE his last two years in college where he produced pretty elite numbers at Temple.
Interestingly enough he was injured in HS his junior and senior years and had to walk-on at Temple.
He worked himself into being a high first round draft pick from a walk-on.

As long as they like the options at CB & S in the 3rd round. We would probably have to give up our 2018 2nd round pick to do so.

And we all still hope we get a flyer on Claiborne.

The problem is, he didn't play linebacker in college, he exclusively played D end. But at 6'1 235, that ain't happening in the NFL. So teams are projecting him as a will or 3-4 ILB/rover, due to his ideal size and athleticism for a LB. He also was a walk on at temple and had to earn a scholarship after a couple of years. So he is raw, and would be new to the position. Which are the risks.
