A lot of our issues this year on offense can be attributed to our absolute joke of a run game. I am aware that we need a lot of help on the OL (and I'm sure the coaching staff and the FO know this too), but our backs do not help. Sproles is up there in age and isn't sturdy enough to pound the rock anymore. PT is great, and gives top effort, but he has a low ceiling. He is a below-average back talent-wise who gives maximum effort at all times to give an average-level output. He will never be better.

I'm positive the team knows this.. That's why we drafted Ingram. We essentially had the same situation at that time and Ingram was our answer. He has not worked out. People say that our system is not made for a true RB.. I call bullshite. We just haven't had one since our offense has become so good at passing. If teams really, truly had to fear that we could bust big runs, our pass game would be a lot more efficient.

I expect we will take a RB. Maybe not in the first few rounds.. we do need to address the OL there. But even though I've been set-in-stone that I'm so sure we will be going T-WR-C-CB in the first four.. I just have a feeling that has changed. CSP is ready to take some pressure off Drew.

Ingram seems like a legit starter to me. Pierre is a good enough backup. Sproles's effectiveness is wearing off. I still say more commitment to the run game and better O-line will fix running game.

You need to hand the football off to have a legitimate running game.

We had a good OL for years and our running game has never been 'good' ..

People always cite that it was pretty good in 2011, but our entire offense was good in 2011. We were bowling over everybody offensively, running a shitload of plays, so naturally we're going to have a lot of yards.

We don't hand it off because it's a waste of a down at this point with our shitty tackles and old, slow RBs

The Saints ran the ball effectively at will yesterday, but apparently 6.4 YPC isn't enough for Coach Payton. He'd rather score in 2 minutes rather than 7. But, whatever.

It's not running backs, it's offensive line and playcalling.

Couldn't agree more.

I highly doubt that we take a running back out of the draft. We have three good running backs but they just dont get the opportunities to run the ball

No way. With the way Ingram is running and Robinson also showing talent there is no way we waste a pick on a RB. They are way too hit or miss anyway.

Losing Carl Nicks has been a disaster for this OL.

I acknowledged that our OL is part of the problem.

I didn't even say in the OP that I think we should take an RB (I do, but that is not the point of the thread). I just said that I have a feeling we will, and laid down the reasoning that I feel like the coaching staff and front office will use to make that decision.

You all may be right. But I tend to lean the other way.. I just don't think any of our guys are the answer.

Ingram is averaging almost 5 yds per carry this year. If we are going to try to run more, give him the ball and lets see what happens.

Pierre and Ingram have all been relatively efficient, adding a RB would be an absolute waste unless the guy was a guaranteed pro bowler level of talent.

O-line needs to actually get a push.

The only back I'd take in our slot would be the guy from Oregon. Could replace Sproles as our Weapon X.

No running back is effective with just 5 touches a game. Need to get him in a rhythm with at least 15 touches or leave him in for a while instead of just sending him in 3rd and short or every now and then on 1st down.

Adrian Peterson wouldn't do shite behind this line. Until you fix the offensive line and commit to the god damn ground game, no RB will be elite here.

We don't run the ball enough to have a consistent running game. We have the talent. Payton refuses to.

There was an article yesterday about the Saints possibly cutting one of the RB's next year, so I don't think they want more RB's. The garbage line and shitty play calling are to blame and it really is that simple. Ingram, whether you love him or hate him, and PT have been running very fricking well when they get the chances. Problem is arrogant and stubborn as frick Sean Payton.
