They did find a role that suited him last year. Apparently he hasn't garnered any interest in FA.

I'm just not certain of our safety depth right now.

We would have to pay him twice?

I never saw much from his play that a tree stump couldn't do so no.

Do we still hold his Byrd rights?

No different from what we did with Evans.

Id like him back for depth. Expectations would be completely different now.

It would obviously be a vet minimum with no guaranteed money.

That would be the sticking point with me. You are allowed to give up to an $80,000 bonus with the minimum and that small chunk of cap would be okay.

But I'd rather see what Bell has and draft another safety to go with him and Vaccaro.

If we don't draft one then bring back Byrd and/or Sanford at the minimum for depth.

At least here with us liking to use 3 safeties (maybe out of necessity at times) he'd get exposure.

Anything more than the minimum and we can look elsewhere.

Edit:
Forgot to add, aside from money, I'd also be worried about Allen reverting back to playing him 20+ yards deep every snap where he doesn't affect the play.

I REALLY hope he doesn't try that shite with Bell.

Would definitely take him back at that contract.

He's an UFA (unrestricted free agent) so no one holds his rights.

He had those two picks against the Bucs on Dec 24.

Too little too late, but he was playing really well towards the end of 2016.

its a lot different than evans imo. Byrd probably is seeing the long term dollars he was hoping for, but short term, he's by far proven to be more valuable than a vet minimum guy. I mean bums off the street are getting 2=3 million dollar deals right now.

They are...but thats an even a bigger indictment against Byrd if he cant get a bite in a market willing to overpay.

He'll probably find a team after the draft i would imagine
