Rule 1:

The time for bitching about the refs, if you must, was yesterday.

Yes there were bad calls and no-calls. Get over it. No one will be decrying them on ESPN, NFLN, or any other sports media outlet which is not directly targeting the Saints. Even they will stay away from it if they have a shred of self respect.

Do you remember the vikings fans after the NFCCG? Don't be those people.

Rule 2:

Have some perspective.

Who in here thought we were going 16-0? Show of hands? Not all at once now...

No shite, we will lose a game here and there. This game, as close as it was, is probably the single most benign game we could have lost so far. It has the least possible impact on our playoff seeding. It was a non conference opponent and the Seahawks don't play them, so there is no chance for a conference record or common opponent tie breaker there. And speaking of which...

Rule #3:

Have some god damn perspective!

In case you hadn't noticed, we're just about guaranteed to make the playoffs this year. It isn't set in stone, but I would bet the house on it. We are barely even competing for the division at this point and the conversation is rightfully centered around which seed we will get. It is a great year to be a Saints fan so stop your fricking whining.

Rule # 4:

The "Drew is on the downslide" conversation is laughably stupid. His season QBR is 102 (including yesterday)...assuming it stays that way for the rest of the year, it would be his third best year playing for us. He had an off afternoon, sure. But seriously, enough with this.

I agree with all that. The Saints had a chance to win. The margin of error was thin, it was an away game, against a perennial power team.

The officiating didn't help the Saints in any fashion, but it's in the record books.

I think we should change the team name from "Saints" to "Redskins"

Screw that. One of the WORST one sided officiated games I have ever seen and I am the last person who looks to blame refs. I hope the refs had a private plane to the game and it goes down with the pilots surviving.

We all knew we would lose games this year. THat doesn't make this loss an easy one to accept jut because we were going to lose.

Rule #3: Have some god damn perspective!

This is a long season to go, and while I am pretty sure we will make the playoffs, it is not a guarantee. Injuries, a few bad bounces, and we can easily lose any game we can win. I remember another Saints team starting out 6-1 and then going 8-8. Granted different players and coaches, but it can happen.

Agreed. But he played like shite and he and Payton deserve all the blame. The force-feeding of Jimmy Graham needs to stop. Colston? Remember that guy?

I'm not as upset by the loss as much as I am with the playcalling. We finally find a run game and we ignore it.

And I'm not one to blame referees. The have a nearly impossible task. That being said, they did a terrible job yesterday. And I don't mind if they make bad calls, but make bad calls for both teams.

Ref talk is like this big taboo. If no one can bring up when a team gets royally fricked, why would it ever change? Losing a game happens, but having the officials be a big part of the final score should never happen in a league as big as the NFL. One game can make a big difference in home field come playoff times.

There were no illusions of 16-0, and in the grand scheme of things this was probably the best game to lose on our schedule. But our team was not given a fair chance today, and since no one is allowed to bring up how absolute bullshite the calls were, what's to stop it from happening again?

But hey, at least the team office might get an apology letter about that false start call being wrong. That makes it all better right?

I feel almost the exact same way that you do on almost all of those points. I hate using the refs as an excuse, especially because we still had the game won and let it slip away but they were terrible all game. Time after time they made the wrong call and we either have the worst luck ever to be on the wrong side of those calls or they were pushing some home field advantage hard. Still no excuse but it made me want to pull my hair out.

There is every right to be angry..venting that anger is normal and perhaps necessary. Lecturing, on the other hand, is not allowed.

I wasn't even that upset right when the GW TD was happening. My initial reaction was, there were two great teams playing their hearts out on that field.

Yeah, Saints came up short, but there's plenty for the players and coaches to take from yesterday's game. It was a playoff atmosphere in a literally no-win situation (Pats win rate at home after a loss under Brady and Hoodie is 90%), facing a brilliant defensive mind and gameplan, terribly blown calls (most of which went against the Saints)...and still the Saints came thisclose to winning anyway.

Look hard at the shortcomings, build on the positives, and become a better team. Far better to get weaknesses exploited on October 13 than next January (or, better yet, February), when it'd be too late to do anything about them.

That's my take, at least.

Problem is if we drop a game to the panthers or bucs or falcons or cowgirls that costs us the #1 seed you will wish we won this pats game like we should have.

I hope our coaches don't take this loss as well as some of you.

I get the silver lining and how the Pats are a tough out at home. But that makes the loss even more nauseous. No excuse for it. Looked like the Saints of old during the last 3 minutes.
