Since we are in the season of analyzing the reasons for our decline this year, whether it be personnel, coaching or both, how important has Drew Brees been to CSP's head coaching career? Conversely, how important has CSP been to Drew's career?
I know this is hypothetical but who believes CSP would be gone by now if not for Drew?
Don't get me wrong, nobody is a bigger fan of Drew and Sean than I am when they're working together. But if we're looking forward, don't we need to consider all possibilities including life without one or the other? All options are on the table thanks to this year's performance. The obvious needs are OL, CB, LB and pass rusher. Restructuring Drew and JG are next for free agency cap room.
But realistically where would this team be if not for Sean and Drew together?
The window is closing and I'm starting to look 5 years down the road instead of just to next year.

They're attached to the hip, but if the rumor of the potential trade for Romo was true, we'd still be fine in my opinion.

Not taking anything from Brees at all. He's elite.

But Payton has coached up some top notch QBs. Donovan McNabb his rookie year, he took Kerry Collins to the Super Bowl, mad Tony Romo an NFL QB and made Drew Brees elite and got a Super Bowl. Not sure we'd be as good, but I think we'd be okay at the QB spot.

Fire brees and CSP and wait ten years for new and better draft picks.

Prior to his leaving San Diego, the Chargers had already determined they would replace Brees. It was Rivers, but they had planned on Eli (if I remember right). Either way, Brees was on his way to being Chad Orton or Jeff Blake, a guy who put up fair numbers but would never be "the man".

Payton had an offensive mind, but those guys are a dime a dozen. He, too, seemed destined for a short stop in New Orleans, then returning as an offensive coordinator somewhere.

Together, Brees has put up Hall of Fame numbers in Payton's system. Really, about all there is to it- a perfect fit.

I dont think the saints and sean payton are gonna start preparing the saints for life without sean payton or drew brees. They dont worry about 5 years from now. I think they are only worried about the next two or three
