I'm a big Payton fan, but he has next year to get it together and that's it for me.

I think he gets one more year to fix the defense.

What a painful time to be a Louisiana sports fan.

Because we have no other playmakers. I mean it's pretty simple. We've lost draft picks bc of Goodall and then the picks we do get, we drafted terribly with. Ireland came in and seems to finally have righted that ship. Another good draft class like that and we're right stocked right back up with young talent.

Good teams these days are built through the draft, not overpriced FA's.

I agree, and a lot of those issues lead back to the coach

Dallas would take him and he'd have them in the super bowl in 2 years.

It's definitely not like the last decade, but things have been worse.

I'm mostly directing that towards the LSU whining, 8-3 is good, just not great. But yeah, for that to be the best we have going, it's pretty rough. I've given up on basketball this season, both college and pro

i'm just starting to wonder how we don't restart without payton now. He's just stale, team isn't generally responding to him and its been a year of a lot of uninspired football. Drew can have another 3 years in him, restart now, especially if we get value for him.

Payton has until mid-season next year to be .500 and if not, drop the axe.

I think Payton would do well in Dallas or somewhere else. Fresh start with different talent.

Consider- Dallas has an O-line and a premier WR, two things we lack here.

The Saints depleted the secondary two seasons ago and three of the top five receivers after last season. Ill advised moves.

Honestly, not one receiver on this team strikes fear into any opponents. Other than Drew Bree's, the Saints do not have any "stars" on the team. It's a one man show every week but one man can't carry a whole team. Sean and Mickey are at fault.

No way, you cannot win a Super Bowl unless you have at least a functional defense. Sean Payton is the most defense-intolerant coach in the league. One of the key reasons the Saints won the Super Bowl is because Payton hired Gregg Williams to oversee the defense. He turned the defense into an aggressive unit that knew how to get turnovers. Of course, the Gregg Williams era went down in flames, but at least it produced results the first year.

What's over? The Window?

The Window closed after the last Saints Division Championship and it's been closed since then. This isn't news.

if he stays he needs to take a stand and shake things up on the defensive coaching staff. I get that we don't necessarily have the best players on D and that some of them are young but come on.

the run defense has been bad for years no matter who we've had out there. There was a big roster turnover this year so you can't really sit back and say its just the players. I don't buy it.

just seems like the coaches aren't doing a good job of putting these guys in good spots to make plays.

the secondary players like Byrd and Vaccaro are constantly being called out. Sometimes its necessary but we've seen this before with Harper and Jenkins.

I like what we have at corner with Breaux and Keenan when healthy.

we do need help with some more new young talent on defense but I wouldn't be all that excited no matter who we picked if they come to a team that doesn't play with much passion on defense.

its just so fricking obvious that some where in there guys are just going through the motions. I didn't care for what Payton had to say in the interview before the game.

he said he felt like they had a solid week of practice. Well I guess they must have by his standards but its clear that it must have been half arse compared to what the Lions had.

by the time we got going it was far too late and they had probably let up some.

Tom Landry posted back to back losing seasons with pro bowler Don Meridith.
Bill Belichick posted back to back losing seasons with Bernie Kosar.
Bill Cowher had back to back losing seasons with some awesome defenses and a HOF running back before they drafted Rothlesburger.

Fans need some damn perspective. It's a rebuild. We are devoid of talent. That's why we have so many needs in the draft. Payton is still a good coach. We need to upgrade some position coaches and upgrade players, but that can be said for most teams.
