Greer doesn't sound like someone that's about to retire...

I never believed that talk anyway since he'd have to write a check to Benson if he retired without being cut, but being interviewed by Jen Hale at the Pels game, he said he's targeting a return by week 1.

I won't bet against Greer. If he comes back healthy, I think we're set at CB with he, Lewis, White, and Prob coming back. I think my the draft well have a better idea on Greer and Proba injury and whether they'll need to be replaced or not.

I think the only way we go CB is if one of the top three guys fall somehow, especially Dennard.

Saints fans should be hoping like hell he bounces back from this. Defense is better with him on the field.

I don't know why people just assume he'll retire.

Of course he said that.

What do you think he's going to say, "Ummm yea I just don't know if I feel like playing anymore. Might just call it quits."

Even if Greer comes back to play nickel on slot receivers, I'll be really happy.

The Saints will have a dire need at CB regardless.

Even with Lewis, White, and Prob and potentially Greer? If someone falls that you cant pass up, sure. But its def not a dire need.

It's good that he's targeting a week 1 return. But they should ease him back in the lineup. The saints are good enough to manage without him in through the first 8 games. If he's back for the final stretch and playoffs it would be huge.

The injury looked bad but from all accounts I thought it was a basic ACL tear.

I don't see why a world class athlete like Greer couldn't bounce back with surgery and rehab. Now had he broken the leg and torn all the other ligmements, I would assume he'd be done.

But I think he'll be back

world class athlete who is on the wrong side of 30. He's 'old' in football years and recovery time and recovery to old form isn't as likely compared to someone in their mid to late 20s.

I hope he comes back and plays at the level he did before the injury, we had two very underrated starting corners, but of course when people say saints they think 2012 defense so we lose credibility for some odd reason.

exactly what I've been posting here. He's 31, which isn't old yet. He has an ACL tear, which is common as well as recoverable with today's medicine. There is nothing to indicate he won't heal from this. If he were 35, then I'd be in agreement with the retirement assessment.

For those saying we don't have a need at CB, I advise you to recheck this roster. Robinson hasn't done much to prove he is a viable starter, White was decent but got burned a lot, and Lewis was the real deal. When Greer went down, there was a noticeable difference in our secondary. I do think White will grow into a solid player, but we absolutely need a CB. Without Greer (or even with him) we are in dire need. Teams run 3-4 WR sets on the norm now, and we currently have only 1 legit starter in Lewis.

He was never that much of an athlete to begin with, as I recall.

Oh we definitely need a CB. if prob has shown us anything, it's that he's best as our #3 CB.

If Greer can't come back to form (and we resign prob), we're looking at prob as our #2, greer at #3, and white as #4.

a good physical CB is definitely necessary.

Robinson was showing some serious flashes in 2011. And honestly, he looked pretty good in preseason this year. In this type of scheme where Ryan just has him press man, I think he'll be fine.
White just isn't a starting caliber guy....yet. But I do think he'll be one of the better nickel CB's in the league though. He looked extremely timid when pressed into the starting role and Ryan had him give over 10 yard cushions to almost everyone he covered.
Lewis..yeah he's our #1 now.

I mean we don't have proven commodities per se, but I absolutely don't see it as a huge need. We were just decimated this year. I'm fine rolling with Lewis, Robinson, and White as our top 3 guys especially considering how much we drop Jenkins or Vaccaro down to cover anyway. People forget we had three safeties on the field most of the year.

I wouldn't say "dire need" at the CB position, but my gut says we take a CB early in the draft.

Lewis - I'm sold on
White - shows flashes of good and bad (I like his play).
PRob - I'm still not sold on. His play in 2012 was subpar, then we assume he would've played better this year but he got injured. I just don't know.
Greer - I assume will be back, but never the same. Older and slower and higher chance of getting re-injured.

Their contracts factor in too. PRob is on his last year albeit cheaper to keep then cut. Greer's is getting more expensive especially factoring in his age and injury.

So I wouldn't say a dire need, but I would say it needs to be addressed in either free agency or the draft (I say draft). I don't want to go into the season counting on 2 CBs coming off season ending injuries, 1 so/so CB and 1 sure starter. Either way Greer's days are numbered and this draft has CB depth.

his entirely too inconsistent. he may develop into a good, consistent player, but it's not a chance worth gambling on. Plus this is his last year under contract I believe

My thoughts too. Robinson and white are inconsistent (I have more faith in White), but we keep saying potential. Lewis is our #1 now. Greer? We need a CB, and I'd love for one of the top three to drop to us in the draft.
