4/4 buddy. Don't sell him short.

Yeah, I didn't care if they replaced him or cut him during the offseason after the last few "blah" seasons since 2009.
But this season, since preseason really, he's been fricking money. I don't know what got into him, but I hope it stays there.

He's never been blah. He's been one of the most consistent kickers in the league holding a steady % year to year.
He may not be at the top of the league in % any given year but he is ahead of just about every other kicker in career %.
His only problem is that his short % is worse than his long %, but he doesn't get nearly as many chances as most other kickers because we've been so good at getting TDs.
And I'd much rather a short miss than a long miss field position wise even though he's good enough that he should be hitting them.
The problem is that he missed 3(IIRC) game tying/winning FGs over 2 or 3 years and people only remember those. But you look at the rest of the league and every kicker does that at some point.
People give him way more shite than he deserves.

He finished 22nd last year in % and 20th in 2010.
He's turned it around this year

I have to find where it breaks down by length, but he's 11th all time in percentage, and 2 of the guys ahead of him have a very small sample size.
Notice most of these guys at the top are current players.
Also, he's a perfect 8 for 8 in the postseason.
Edit:
@Tigerbait, he's actually tied for his lowest % ever so far this year.
And remember the difference between being 20th in % and 10th in % is very small and overrated.
As I said he's never been in the top but his career % is pretty damn good. He's a top 10 kicker in the league today.

because of the small sample size

I'd consider 8% to be a pretty wide margin

he needs to finish in the top 10 at least 1 year to be considered a top 10 kicker

No he doesn't. He is literally a top 10 kicker. Numbers don't lie. He's 11th ALL TIME.

Just look at the link. He is literally 10th among current kickers in % and 11th all time in %.
These numbers fluctuate wildly from one year to the next and I have seen some kickers who were top 3 the next year fall into 20th or worse.
He's been one of the most steady kickers ever.

Here's a perfect example. Dawson had 93.1% one year and the very next year he had 72.4%. That's over a 20% drop and almost every kicker has this in their career. Props to Hartley for never dipping below 80%.
