Fumble in the endzone
Posted by omegaman66 on 10/21/13 at 5:29 am00
Denver fumbled the ball when PM got blindsided in the endzone. The colts recovered the ball in the endzone. It was ruled a safety instead of a touchdown.
Educate me on why? Did they rule it was not recovered by the Colts?

He got control of it out of bounds. Therefore, it was ruled a safety.

Thanks. I thought he had it. Wasn't watching closely. The announcers said something like maybe they (in the booth) were looking to see if one of his dreds was touching out making me think that that had he been ruled out that would have changed the way it was ruled on the field. Thanks.

did they actually say that?

Yes. They said if any part of the body touches out of bounds (even dreads) before he had control of the ball, then it is a safety. Replay showed he didn't have total control of the ball until his hair/almost shoulder was out.
