I really just don't see the team letting Strief walk. He is decidedly average but at least you know what you're getting with him (and at a decent price, too). I'm not sure the team is willing to gamble Drew's health in his last few seasons on a rookie and a 2nd year guy with only 4 starts at both T positions.

May I ask why?
For me OT or CB would be great in the 1st.

I don't see the need; Armstead was awesome.
He should be removing our need for tackle help, and we need help in other places.
And Strief was pretty damn good all season.
Get a center in the mid round and our OL is very tight.

T just doesn't seem like a 1st-round-type-need IMO. If we resign Strief we have solid starters on both sides. It just seems like we would be better off taking a player at a more significant position of need (WR or CB, some would also argue S).
That being said, I see the team going BPA regardless of need.

Strief is a free agent so he can go to the highest bidder or where ever he wishes.
The Saints do not have a starting right tackle right now unless you consider the bench guys.

I think Strief is more likely back than gone but no sure thing at all. If not I could see a road grader that could start at RT then takeover for Grubbs or Evans as they get spendier and older. Kouandjio is talented enough that it might be a competition for LT with the loser going to RT.

fortunately for us the scouts watch more than one game

Nah. We ain't drafting him.
Posted on 1/20/14 at 1:19 pm to blueslover
I would be pretty happy if we took him in 1st.or that beast from Tenn you posted earlier. Talk about a mountain. Grab a big powerful center in 2nd or 3rd and a wr in the other.
Eta:sorry thought the Tenn player was the OT not the dt

it sounds like a simple upgrade and answer to the O Line- prolly unlikely then

I think it will be CB then. Looking at mocks and who will fall where, CB seems to be loaded when we draft.

a lot of updates since Beasley is returning to school. He was the most frequently mocked early.

Rob Ryan has done wonders with the Saints’ defense, but it’s no secret they need more pass rush help, talent-wise, for the future. Jeremiah Attaochu was remarkably impressive as a sophomore and produced at a high level in a true 3-4 defense, which scouts will certainly notice when they review him. He’ll fit in well as an edge rusher in a 3-4 set.

27. New Orleans Saints — Missouri OLB-DE Kony Ealy
If there's a pressing need on this defense, it's a pressure player on the edge. Ealy has seen his stock rise as more teams see a similar type of talent to the San Francisco 49ers' Aldon Smith budding. Despite having a bigger frame, Ealy is not as freakish an athlete as Smith and he needs to defend the run better, but there are some similarities. Ealy is a power player, and he'd be a perfect fit — if he can prove he stand up consistently — in this Rob Ryan scheme.
-----I really don't think a lot of mockers remember Victor Butler. It's not that he is such a can't miss player concerning another pass rusher. It's that the need has been met. I bet most mockers haven't caught up yet with that the Saints were 4th in sacks in the NFL this year.

I don't get it. Why would we draft another DE when we had two players with double digit sacks. It seems more like he was just randomly guessing than actually evaluating a teams needs
Posted on 1/21/14 at 6:45 pm to tigersaint14
I would not be okay with Brandin Cooks in the 1st round. I haven't seen any mocks where he cracks the top-32, and I'm not really sure he's much better than Markus Wheaton was coming out last year.

Combo definitely. Harper is gone.

Really blows my mind so many people are mocking us to take a DE-OLB. I mean I know you can never have enough pass rushers, but with Galette, Haralson, Butler I think we're pretty set there. I mean obviously I wouldn't mind another guy, but someone who we could either nab in FA or take in a later round. That is absolutely not a first round need/take. Unless some can't miss guy falls, but then again there's a reason they're falling.

Galette at this point seems much more one dimensional than Jordan. Seems to have more room vs the run to improve.
Haralson plays for no one right now.
Butler has not played a snap.
Set. I would not quite go there.
